Wo Long First Boss: How To Beat Zhang Liang

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Morale Rank: 10 (at start of fight)
• Phase 1 Weakness: Can be stun-locked with aggressive combos.
• Phase 2 Weakness: Focus on deflecting Critical Blows to build Divine Beast Gauge.

Phases:

1. Phase 1: Zhang Liang is aggressive but susceptible to stun-locking. Focus on offense and deflecting his Critical Blows to perform Fatal Strikes.
2. Phase 2: Zhang Liang becomes more mutated and aggressive. Stun-locking is no longer effective. Focus on defense, parrying his attacks, and building the Divine Beast Gauge.

Strategy:

• Preparation: Before the fight, activate all Battle and Marking Flags in the Village of Calamity to reach at least Morale Rank 10. Farm enemies between flags to increase your Morale Rank further (15+ recommended).
• Phase 1 Strategy: Equip Enhanced Defense and Repression Crush Wizardry Spells. Be aggressive to stun-lock Zhang Liang. Use the combo: Attack + Attack + Attack (or equivalent on Xbox) repeatedly. Watch out for his red aura indicating a Critical Blow. Dodge or parry these blows. Deflecting Critical Blows is key to building your Spirit Gauge for Fatal Strikes. His Critical Blows include an uppercut after dragging his club and a lunging swing.
• Phase 2 Strategy: Zhang Liang mutates and becomes more aggressive. Stun-locking is not viable. Focus on being defensive and constantly moving to avoid his attacks. Stay close enough to deflect his Critical Blows, which now involve his mutated arm. Successfully deflecting these builds your Divine Beast Gauge. He also has a rapid arm slash Critical Blow that is difficult to deflect; dodging is recommended. Use Repression Crush to slow his recovery between attacks.
• Divine Beast: In Phase 2, successfully deflecting Critical Blows 2-3 times will build your Divine Beast Gauge. Once full, summon your Divine Beast (Triangle + Circle on PlayStation, Y + B on Xbox) to trigger a cutscene and defeat Zhang Liang.
