Follow our detailed Yakuza 0 walkthrough for Chapter 5: An Honest Living. Includes substories, real estate, and a missable trophy guide.

Checking in on Kiryu, it's time for him to get some new fancy clothes for his new job at Tachibana. Head to the marker with Nishiki. You'll have a snazzy new getup as a result.

Now, several things are available:

  • Thirteen new Substories have opened up.
  • The Telephone Club in the southeast has opened for your business, so give that a check.
  • If you go into the north end of the Kamuro Shopping Area, you'll run into a guy who will ask for a moment of your time. Accept and he'll introduce you to the Kamurocho branch of Dragon & Tiger, where Kiryu can buy the same weapons that Majima has access to. He can't send out agents or make new weapons, but he can buy, sell, and repair.

Once you've had your fill, head to Café Alps to meet up with Oda. He's going to get your feet wet in the realm of real estate.

Now, pay attention because a missable trophy is coming up. How you do this encounter with Yamanoi will determine if you get it.

  1. First, choose the four-seater table "near the back" (on the right, but not the very back).
  2. Next, take the "nearest seat".
  3. Order "nothing" when the waiter approaches.
  4. Lastly, pass the quick-time event when the man enters and you'll get the trophy once the conversation ends.

Now, to go see about this squatter. First, head to the M Store near the Batting Center and buy a Confection Gift Box, then head to the Sugita Building on Tenkaichi (the marked spot). After some tense negotiating, you'll end up in a fight. With those guys beat, head to Mach Bowl to bring your client the good news. On the way, you'll hear the name "Five Billionaires" dropped. How ominous. Continue to Mach Bowl and you'll learn more about them. You'll also learn that this guy knows a TON more about you than he might have let on. Yamanoi here is the guy to introduce you to Kiryu's Business. Go out and have some fun for a bit, then you'll get a page calling you back to Sugita. Head inside.

You're now fully invested in Real Estate Royale. Follow the instructions to first start collecting from Yurizake, then head outside and around to Sukiyaki Muranaka and buy it. When it comes time to collect, you'll get the funds directly. At this point, you're allowed to deal with this side story as much or as little as you want to.

Note that when you leave the building, any potential members of your staff that you can hire will be right outside. You'll recognize these people from substories in which you got involved with them. Other substories can further add to your staff, so if you're serious about taking this to the limit, get involved. My personal suggestion is to definitely defeat the Leisure King, because it will get you an income stream that you can apply to your third ranking of Abilities for your styles and moving on to the fourth ranking. If you want a nice comfortable lead on the rest of the game, I'd suggest moving on to the Electronics King and the Pleasure King as well. You can try to move on the Gambling King's area as well but at a certain point the game will cut you off, saying you essentially need to proceed through the story more. Also, you can potentially have fifty of Kiryu's substories completed before the end of this chapter.

To continue on with the story, head to Serena on Tenkaichi, a place that Kiryu has never been to, but will become eminently familiar with as the series goes on. Once inside, lengthy cutscenes will happen and Awano and his goons will show up. Fight the five goons, led by Okabe, outside. If you've built yourself up a lot, you'll see the fruits of your labors as you wreck him and his crew. That will end this chapter.
