Complete guide to all 60 Substories in Yakuza: Dead Souls. Find out how to start, complete, and get the best rewards for every side quest.

Substories in Yakuza: Dead Souls are side quests that expand the city of Kamurocho and its people. They feature small plots focused on specific individuals and their problems, with players helping them out. These quests can be initiated by heading to a specific location or speaking to an NPC. They often involve traveling between locations, sometimes requiring items, and occasionally combat against zombies. Completing a substory usually yields a useful reward.

Unlike previous Yakuza titles, Dead Souls marks substories on the map with question marks, indicating their starting points and often subsequent stages. The most reliable way to track progress is through the Substories tab in the Missions list, which provides descriptions of recent events and hints for the next steps.

Similar to Yakuza 4, substories have two completion levels: 'Finished' (white checkmark) and 'Complete' (yellow checkmark). 'Complete' signifies the best possible outcome, while 'Finished' may not. While either is acceptable for overall completion, aiming for 'Complete' is recommended for optimal rewards. 'Finished' outcomes are rare, typically occurring only if escorted enemies lose all health.

There are 60 substories in Dead Souls, with 15 assigned to each of the four main characters. Some substories form chains, with certain ones dedicated to developing a partner's story. The list below presents them in the order they appear in the game's Missions tab. Note that some substories do not allow partners, while others will explicitly state 'Partner Allowed'. Completing all substories is a requirement to unlock the game's superboss.

Completing all substories triggers a message to visit Naomi's Palace for a reward. You will receive the Money-Making Beads, which grant ¥1 for every shot fired from a gun.
