Design Map Mode Controls:

Control Pad: Use to move the cursor around the map, similar to regular gameplay but for map creation.

R Button: Access the terrain options. You can place mountains, properties, forests, and sea tiles.

L Button: Access all available units for placement on the map. Every unit in Advance Wars is available.

Start Button: Opens the minimap (a small map showing your current design). It flashes between terrain and units if units are present.

Select Button: Opens the main menu with several categories:

File: Load, save, or name your map. You can only save three total maps, and there is a limit on the number of letters for map names.

Help: Displays the design map conditions you must follow (e.g., maximum of 60 properties, 50 units for each side) and provides instructions for map design.

Intel: Shows the count of each property type for each army color, as well as neutral properties.

Fill: Quickly fill areas of the map with plains, mountains, forest, sea, or random terrain. This is useful for populating large sections without manual placement. The random terrain option is less useful; it's often better to fill with a specific terrain like sea and then add other elements manually.

End: Stops map design for the current session. If you haven't saved, Nell will prompt you to save your progress.
