What Carries Over:

  • Saga's additional weapons (sawed-off shotgun, crossbow, hunting rifle, pump-action shotgun) and their upgrades, available after finding a shoebox during Return 2: The Heart.
  • Unique charms unlocked previously (excluding excess Coffee Mug Charms), available after finding a shoebox. Duplicate unique charms are replaced with Coffee Mug Charms.
  • Alan's additional weapons (flare gun, double-barrelled shotgun) and their Word of Gun / Word of War upgrades, available after receiving the revolver and flashlight during Initiation 2: Casey.
  • Alan's Word of Power upgrades. You may start with more upgrades than in the previous playthrough. Unspent Words of Power cannot be collected or spent once all upgrades in a category are acquired.
  • Inventory space upgrades for both characters. Hip pouches found in Saga's storyline are not available a second time.
  • Songs (Old Gods of Asgard / Various Artists). Other collectables do not carry over.

What Does Not Carry Over:

  • Consumables from the previous playthrough's inventory or shoebox.
  • Items like the screwdriver and boltcutters must be re-acquired.

Narrative Changes and Gameplay Differences:

Return 0: The Cult

  • Alan is aware of his previous experiences but not doomed to repeat them.

Return 1: Invitation

  • A manuscript page, Saga Anderson's Deja Vu, is found at the foot of the path to the Witch's Hut when returning to the car park.

Return 2: The Heart

  • A manuscript page, Dark Poem 1, is found in the Witch's Hut after powering it up.

Initiation 1: Late Night

  • A Writer's Journey video, Spiral, plays on a TV in the Wardrobe room when attempting to leave the studio for the first time.

Initiation 2: Casey

  • Alan has a brief vision of Alice upon entering the elevator in Parliament Tower; she leaves the Spark of Light photograph for him.

Return 3: Local Girl

  • If the crossbow was found previously, the associated cult stash is already opened, and the Case Board clue is received automatically.

Return 5: Old Gods

  • A manuscript page, Dark Poem 2, is found on the floor of Cynthia Weaver's room.
  • The Cult Stash in Bright Falls harbour is empty if unlocked previously.

Return 6: Scratch

  • A manuscript page, Breakthrough at the Lake House, is found on the floor of a hallway next to a dead officer after restoring power to the Sheriff's Station and returning upstairs.
  • A second manuscript page, Dark Poem 3, is found on flight cases in the prison cell containing FBC evidence.

Return 7: Summoning

  • A manuscript page, It's Not a Lake, is found just before reaching the lakeshore where the Anderson brothers are.

Initiation 5: Room 665

  • The TV in Room 224 of the Oceanview Hotel plays Nightsprings - Season Intro.
  • The TV in Room 205 plays Dr. Darling - Signals.

Initiation 8: Zane's Film

  • After meeting Thomas Zane in the Oceanview Hotel, take the lift down and go behind the reception desk to find a TV playing Dr. Darling - Collaboration.

Return 8: Come Home

  • Tor and Odin are found by the fountain in Caldera St. Plaza. They can be spoken to about their experiences in the Dark Place upon a second visit.
  • In the ending, Logan answers the phone complaining of a nightmare, and Alan announces the ending worked.
