Master Alan Wake 2: The Lake House with essential tips on combat, inventory management, healing, and weapon upgrades. Conquer the darkness and survive.

General Tips:

  • The difficulty can be extreme, even harder than Nightmare in Alan Wake Remastered. Don't hesitate to lower it if needed, especially if you're focused on atmosphere and story.
  • Save manually whenever possible. The checkpoint system is sparse.
  • Inventory space is limited. Use consumable items regularly to avoid filling up your inventory and shoeboxes, especially crossbow bolts which stack poorly.
  • Both characters rely on items for healing. Painkillers are best for combat, Trauma Pads for brief respites, and First Aid Kits for full heals outside of combat (store them in shoeboxes).
  • Loot in stashes is fixed, but supply containers offer semi-randomized items, often giving you what you currently need. Don't hoard ammo; you'll likely find more.
  • Damage to enemies is significantly reduced unless their Darkness Shield is destroyed with the torch first. This uses battery charges. The hunting rifle has an upgrade to bypass shields, and combined with the FBC charm, can be very effective.
  • Weapon upgrades require manuscript fragments. Prioritize upgrades like reload speed and health restoration for the sawed-off shotgun, two-shot and magnetic bolts for the crossbow, and hunting rifle upgrades. Alan's weapon upgrades are less impactful.
  • Equip a Coffee Mug Charm before boss fights for an extra life.
  • Retreat to the Mind Place/Writer's Room only when safe, as these spaces are not real.
  • When playing as Saga, if combat encounters deplete resources excessively, reload your last save to potentially avoid them.

Trophies:

  • The Platinum trophy can be unlocked in a single playthrough. There are no difficulty-related trophies.
  • Collect all Cult Stashes, Lunch Boxes, Nursery Rhyme Puzzles, Koskela Ads, and Writer's Journey videos. Solving all Nursery Rhyme Puzzles also unlocks trophies for collecting unique charms and finding all Nursery Rhyme Dolls.
  • Complete optional exploration sections early, as areas become very dark later in the game.
  • Combat-related trophies can be tricky. During Return 3: Local Girl, a guaranteed enemy near Coffee World can be used to practice specific combat actions by lowering the difficulty.
