Below are maps for the entire game and notation to help you find each item. This lists will be broken up into categories based on which movement abilities you have at your disposal. I've tried to be as accurate as possible, but keep in mind that there are nearly 400 chests, breakable walls, power-ups, etc., in this game, so there may be some minor errors. Each item has been placed on the map and a description has been included.

How to read these maps:

  1. Numbering: Items are numbered as efficiently as possible. You'll more than likely pick them up in order. In some instances, I don't list items as soon as you can get them because it'll be easier or save you time to get them later.
  2. Duplicate Numbers - There are instances where a chart may list a number twice. This happens when two items are very close to each other and there wasn't enough room on the map to show two numbers.
  3. Tricks: There are opportunities to get some items earlier through more difficult means. If you can do that, wonderful! In most cases, I erred on the side of caution and listed them when it seems the game expects you to get the item.
  4. Respawning: Bookcases can be revisited and Blue Chests refill after you leave a region and return. Otherwise, all items can only be claimed once.
  5. Blue Chests: The contents of blue chests vary. The blue chests in a region tend to draw from the same pool of potential items, but not always, so examples of items found in each chest are listed. The examples are not exhaustive. Your odds of getting extra items out of a blue chest increase with your Luck stat.
  6. Hidden Area: Hidden Areas are difficult to see or obscured spots that are part of a room.
  7. Secret Room: Anything listed as a Secret Room is in a room that has to be accessed by removing a particular barrier. Often times it's a breakable wall. Items are listed under this even if they are in some other container, such as a chest.
  8. Weak Wall - This indicates that an item is in a section of wall that is breakable. This is NOT a Secret Room, but just a chunk of wall with something stuck in it. Breaking the wall instantly reveals the item.
  9. Floor - This item is out in the open and sitting on the floor. This does not mean it's at the bottom of the room. It simply means that it is not in any particular container.

Certain abilities are not listed as requirements for a particular chest because having that ability is required to reach the region in the first place. This is why parts of Dian Cecht Cathedral may have Reflector Ray listed (since you don't need it for the whole region) while Invert may not be listed for items in the Oriental Sorcery Lab. In some instances, something may be reachable without a particular ability listed, but it's much easier (and likely intended) for you to get it with the ability.

8-bit Nightmare

The 8-bit Nightmare doesn't technically have a map. It is a straight section moving to the right from the entrance. It is precisely one tile high and has no deviations. It can only be entered from a hidden bookshelf at the top of the Hall of Termination and can only be left by defeating the boss at the end.
