Richter Belmont
This fight against 'The Lord of this Castle' is significantly more challenging than previous encounters, comparable to the Doppleganger boss. Your sub-weapons and magic spells are ineffective against Richter; he either ignores them or uses a charge-up attack to dodge them. Richter wields multiple sub-weapons himself, and his standard whip attack with the Vampire Killer has considerable range, making it difficult to approach him for melee attacks. If you manage to get close, you'll likely be hit multiple times before landing a blow. Similar to the Doppleganger, this battle emphasizes strategy and anticipating his moves over memorizing attack patterns.
After you've depleted about half of his health, Richter will pause, seemingly in awe of your power, before revealing more of his strength. He will then unleash the ultimate form of Holy Water, Hydro Storm, which fills the entire room. To avoid taking damage, transform into mist form. While in mist form, Richter's ultimate attacks, and indeed any of his attacks, will not harm you. Post-half-health, he will frequently use his ultimate attacks without provocation. His standard attack now involves a flaming Vampire Killer, dealing increased damage. When you jump over him or are descending from a jump, he will use his axe sub-weapon against you.
Overall, the fight against Richter is distinct from previous boss encounters. Upon defeating him, you will be treated to a cinematic followed by a cut scene where Alucard addresses you.
CASTLEVANIA: SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT
This sequence leads to the 'Worst Ending,' one of five possible endings in the game. Each ending features a different cut scene that reveals more of the story as you explore further. After the credits, return to your save file. At the bottom right of the screen, on the same line as your money total, you'll see a percentage. This should read 98% if you've explored every room and found all hidden areas, including the 'annoying gray squares' in large rooms and the water sections of the castle. Achieving 98% completion prepares you for the subsequent steps to attain the bad ending.
