A guide to defeating the Succubus and Scylla bosses in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, including strategies, weaknesses, and item locations.

This section covers the bosses Frog, Toad, Skeleton Ape, Frozen Shade, Bat, Fishhead, and Killer Fish, though the provided text focuses on the Succubus and Scylla encounters within the Caverns area.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Enter the Caverns. Break the pot on the top left for a Zircon. Avoid Spear Guards. The room to the right of the two Spear Guards is a save room.
  2. 2
After saving, head down. Ignore the left path. Continue past a single Spear Guard to the last set of stairs.
  3. 3
Locate the torch on the far left wall. A drop-off is between you and the torch. This drop leads to the bottom of the area.
  4. 4
To reach the room on the right at the top of the drop-off, transform into the Bat and fly over. Alternatively, use Gravity Boots with precise timing. Break the two pots on the left wall for Bags of Money.
  5. 5
Transform into the Bat again and fly down the drop-off. Proceed to the room on the right.
  6. 6
This room contains candles. The next room has a pot with a Claymore. Continue to the next room on the right.
  7. 7
This room contains Meal Tickets in pots. The bottom right pot holds a Moonstone accessory.
  8. 8
Proceed to the dead-end room with left and right exits. The left is a save room, and the right is a boss fight disguised as a save room. Enter the boss fight.

Boss Fight: Succubus

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Weak to: Not specified, but vulnerable to spells, sub-weapons, and normal attacks.

Phases:

  1. The Succubus attacks by impaling. Stay directly beneath her to avoid this.
  2. She duplicates herself across the top of the screen. Hit her to eliminate all duplicates at once. The knife sub-weapon is effective here due to its attack path.
  3. She spends most of her time flying at the top of the screen. Chip away at her health with spells, sub-weapons, and jumping attacks.

Strategy:

  • Dodge her impaling attack by positioning yourself beneath her.
  • Use the knife sub-weapon to hit multiple duplicates simultaneously when she splits.
  • Attack her with spells, sub-weapons, and jump attacks when she is at the top of the screen.

After Succubus:

  1. After defeating the Succubus, a cut scene plays, and you exit the room automatically.
  2. You will find a Gold Ring on the ground, which is necessary for better endings but not immediately equipable.
  3. Return to the large drop-off and descend all the way.
  4. At the bottom, there is a save room. To the left of the save room is an opening to a dropdown.
  5. Take this path, dropping down and entering the next room on the right.

Mini-Boss: Scylla Wyrm

The room contains the Scylla Wyrm. It moves its head forward and back. A few hits will cause it to retreat, opening the next room.

Navigating the Water Room:

  1. The next room has rising water. Use the columns as platforms to quickly reach the opening on the right before the water causes massive damage.
  2. Past the water, on the right, a pot contains a Pot Roast.
  3. Move to the left side of the room to face the Scylla boss.

Boss Fight: Scylla

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Weak to: Not specified, but vulnerable to normal weapon attacks after Wyrms are defeated.

Phases:

  1. The Scylla is a multi-creature boss: a three-headed dog with tentacles (Wyrms) and a female body at the top.
  2. The first objective is to destroy the three tentacles (Wyrms).
  3. After the Wyrms are gone, you can get closer to the main Scylla body.
  4. Scylla summons water skulls that shoot at you. These can be destroyed with sub-weapons or normal attacks.
  5. When close to the main body, fragments will fall from the ceiling.

Strategy:

  • Prioritize destroying the three Wyrms first.
  • Once the Wyrms are defeated, attack the main Scylla body with your normal weapon.
  • Avoid falling ceiling fragments by positioning yourself carefully.
  • Destroy water skulls summoned by Scylla.
  • The best place to stand is between the first column and the ground, offering a good view and distance from falling rocks.
  • Chip away at Scylla's health, retreating when necessary.

After Scylla:

  1. After defeating Scylla, you will receive a Life Max Up.
  2. In the next room, you will find a Crystal Cloak. The Blood Cloak is generally preferred.
  3. Return to the drop-off and go right to find the Scimitar sword in a dead-end. This is an inferior weapon.
  4. Head back left, drop down, and grab the potion below the cliff.
