Forza Horizon 2 is the second installment in the Forza Horizon series, a spin-off from the Forza Motorsport series. It was released on September 30, 2014, as the sequel to Forza Horizon. The Xbox One version was developed by Playground Games in collaboration with Turn 10 Studios using the Forza Motorsport 5 game engine, while the Xbox 360 version was developed by Sumo Digital using the engine from the first Forza Horizon.

The game is set around Southern France and Northern Italy, revolving around a musical festival. It features a dynamic weather system and the Drivatar AI. While barrier-less, it includes invisible walls. Gameplay emphasizes combining single-player and multiplayer aspects, with Drivatars encountered in single-player and replaced by other players online. Players can create Car Meets for races and car customization exchanges. The game incorporates a Perk system and the Horizon Wheelspin (Xbox One only).

Forza Horizon 2 includes over 700 events, including barrier-less cross country races for up to 12 players. Driving challenges are featured in "Bucket Lists," which are triggered by entering specific vehicles placed throughout the game world. New Bucket Lists are released or updated post-launch.

The Xbox 360 version has significant differences, including scaled-down graphics, missing dynamic weather, water, and dirt effects, fewer cars (but some exclusives), and a different achievement list. It also lacks Horizon Wheelspins, Car Clubs, and DLCs, and has more bugs.

The game features over 200 cars, with a Porsche Expansion released in 2015 adding more Porsche vehicles. Downloadable content includes passes, car packs, expansions, bundles, and promotional packs. A standalone expansion, Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious, was released on March 27, 2015.

Online services for Forza Horizon 2 and its DLC were shut down on August 22, 2023. The game and its DLC are no longer available for purchase on the Microsoft Store since October 1, 2018.
