Learn how to skin, remove mandibles, claws, and take hearts from creatures in Gothic 1 Remake. Master hunting skills to earn money and progress.
Hey there! So, you're looking to get into hunting in Khorinis? It's a pretty neat way to make some extra coin and get valuable components from the creatures you take down. Think of it as a specialized skill, and like most things in the Old Camp, it'll cost you 5 Learning Points (LP) to pick up each new trick. The most basic one, skinning, is your gateway to all the others, so it's definitely worth learning early on.
Hunting Skills Overview:
- Each hunting skill costs 5 LP to learn.
- Basic skinning is required to learn other hunting skills.
- Some skins are valuable components, not just for selling.
A1.2.1 - Hunting: Skinning
This is your bread and butter when it comes to hunting. When you first arrive in Khorinis and meet Bosper at the 'Deadly Arrow' shop, he'll be eager to teach you. Learning to skin is actually a requirement for completing one of his quests and getting his okay to join any of the city's Masters. Even if you don't plan on becoming a full-time hunter, you absolutely should learn this. Not only does it open the door to learning more advanced hunting skills, but those pelts can fetch a good price throughout your adventures.
Just chat with Bosper and tell him, "Teach me how to skin!" It'll cost you 5 LP. The best part? Skinning is automatic! You don't need any special stats for it. If you have the skill, you'll get the skin from any creature that can drop one. If not, tough luck. You can skin a variety of animals and monsters, including Sheep, Young Wolves, Wolves, Wargs, Shadowbeasts, Trolls, and even Black Trolls. You can also skin Lurkers and Swampsharks, but their skins are usually used as components rather than sold directly.

A1.2.2 - Hunting: Remove Mandibles
Once you've got the hang of skinning and decided to invest more LP, you can learn to remove mandibles. This skill lets you take the mandibles from creatures like Field Raiders. It's another way to get valuable components from your kills.

A1.2.3 - Hunting: Remove Claws
This skill is all about getting those nasty claws off your enemies. While individual claws might not be worth a ton of Gold, you'll end up with a massive collection of them. You can harvest claws from a good number of beasts, including Snappers (you get 2), Dragon Snappers (4), Lizards (2), Fire Lizards (4), and Shadowbeasts (3). Lurkers also drop 'Lurker Claws' which are just as valuable.

A1.2.4 - Hunting: Take Hearts
This is for the more specialized hunters among us. The 'Take Hearts' skill allows you to extract the hearts from magical and special creatures. Think Golems and Demons – their hearts are definitely worth the effort according to the field manual. It's a bit more dangerous, but the rewards can be significant.
