Find permanent stat and skill boosts in Gothic 1 Remake, including apples for Strength, Dark Mushrooms for Mana, and books for weapon skills.
It is generally a good idea to wait to use these boosts until you can no longer train a certain skill, or if it's a skill you do not intend to train to its maximum.
Apples
Eating 25 regular green Apples grants a permanent +1 to Strength. This effect only works once, so only the first 25 eaten count, even though apples are unlimited.
Dark Mushrooms
Eating 50 Dark Mushrooms permanently raises your Mana by +10. This effect also only works once. Note that 50 Dark Mushrooms are worth a significant amount of gold, so you must decide what is more important. Hundreds of Dark Mushrooms are available throughout the game.
Coragon's Special Beer
Coragon, the barkeep at the Happy Fatted Calf in Khorinis, can give you a special brew that permanently adds +3 HP and +1 Mana. Refer to C1.2.S7 Coragon's Silver and C1.3.S8 Lehmar's Ledger for information on obtaining two of these kegs.
Rengaru's Pick Pocketing Tips
Rengaru, a thief in Khorinis, can teach you a trick about picking pockets if you show him the Thieves signal. This requires membership in the Thieves Guild. The tip he gives permanently raises your Dexterity by +2.
Book: The Divine Power of the Stars
This book can be bought from either Constantino or Zuris in Khorinis during Chapter 1. Reading it will permanently raise your Mana by +2.
Potions
A master alchemist can brew potions that permanently raise attributes. These can provide +5 Strength, +5 Dexterity, +15 Hitpoints, and +10 Mana each. These potions can also be found as rare loot. Refer to Alchemy for more information.
Thekla's Stew
Thekla, the cook at Onar's farm, makes a stew that heals 20 HP when eaten. After eating a pot, your Strength will also permanently increase by +1.
Wulfgar's One-Hander Tip
In Khorinis' barracks, Wulfgar trains citizens. If you speak to Wulfgar between 5 AM and 7 AM while he is alone in the barracks yard, you will receive a tip worth a permanent +2% to your one-handed weapons skill.
Book: Southern Defense Art
In Chapter 2, Lutero, a merchant in the upper quarter, sells this book for 5000 gold. Reading it raises your One-Handed skill by 5%.
Book: Double Blocks
Also bought from Lutero at the start of Chapter 2, this red book costs the same and permanently raises your Two-Handed skill by 5%.
Sergio's Two-Hander tip
This can only be done as a novice after joining the monastery; mercenaries and paladins cannot receive this. Complete Marduk's quest "C1.6.Q8 Prayer for the Paladins," and Sergio will give you pointers on using a two-hand weapon, resulting in a permanent +2% bonus.
Donations to Daron
Daron, a fire mage inside the eastgate in Khorinis, accepts donations up to 1000 gold in increments of 200, 100, or 50 gold. Donating 200 gold 5 times yields 6 bonuses in total. Donating 100 gold 10 times yields 11 bonuses. Donating 50 gold at a time yields bonuses starting from the second donation, up to 1000 gold, for a total of 21 bonuses.
These bonuses include at least 3 unique ones: +2 permanent Mana, +250 experience, and a free Learning Point. Additionally, you receive +5 permanent HP for each donation. The optimal way of 20 donations of 50 gold each yields a total of 2 Max Mana, 1 Learning Point, +250 XP, and +85 HP.
Statues of Innos
You can pray to statues of Innos across the land and donate gold to receive permanent bonuses. This can be done once per day per statue, except during brief unavailability periods. The bonus is randomly selected from a set of bonuses available to your guild/class, including Strength, Dexterity, Mana, and Hitpoints.
The most common bonuses are +4 HP or +1 Strength, available to non-guilded characters, mercenaries, dragon hunters, and militia men. Paladins receive a greater benefit, with prayers randomly granting either +2 Strength or other bonuses.
