Guide to Chapter 5 of Gothic 1 Remake. Learn how to leave Khorinis, complete Xardas' Tower quests, and prepare for your journey to the Master Dragon.
Chapter 5 begins upon re-entering the pass from the Valley of Mines after defeating the four dragons. While Khorinis remains largely unchanged, the primary objective of this chapter is to depart the city and pursue the Master Dragon. This quest is added to your log after defeating the final dragon.
By the end of Chapter 4, you should have a significant level boost from facing orcs, quests, and dragons. A recommended level for starting Chapter 5 is around 30, with 40 being a strong starting point.
Upon returning to Khorinis, your first stops should be the Monastery and then Xardas' Tower to establish your objectives for the chapter. The quest log remains organized by area.
C5.1 - XARDAS' TOWER & VALLEY, AND ROAD TO KHORINIS
This area has few remaining tasks, but one crucial item is needed to advance the main plot.
POINT OF INTEREST: Xardas' Letter
Travel to Xardas' Tower via teleport rune or by walking from the city. Lares will be waiting outside. He will inform you that Xardas left without a word but left a letter for you. This letter contains the magic phrase required to open the 'Halls of Idorath' book you found earlier. Ensure you obtain this before visiting the monastery.
POINT OF INTEREST: Lobart's Demise
This is your opportunity to gain some reward for Lobart's constant nagging throughout the game. You can loot his entire farm, including Lobart, Hilda, Vino, and Maleth, for a total of +1000 XP.
C5.2 - CITY OF KHORINIS
Most of the remaining activities in Khorinis involve completing quests related to the ship, its captain, and crew, as well as tying up loose ends and acquiring necessary equipment for your upcoming journey.
SIDEQUEST: A Fifth Prophecy
Visit Abuyin to obtain the fifth and final prophecy. This dark tale costs 1000 gold but rewards you with +1000 XP.
POINT OF INTEREST: Provisioning
Khorinis merchants now have new stock. Take this opportunity to purchase useful items. Constantino offers a Dragonroot and 2 King's Sorrels. Zuris has an Elixir of Life. Lutero in the upper quarters sells a King's Sorrel and a Blank Runestone for mages. For ranged weapons, Bosper offers the Dragonhunter's Crossbow (100/85) and the Dragon Bow (75/95), the best available. Jora and the Gardener provide healing and fire roots for crafting elixirs.
SIDEQUEST: The Thieves Guild
This is an unusual quest. In Chapter 1, you could eliminate the Thieves Guild for a shortcut to joining the paladins. Although the quest is long gone, it can still be completed now, regardless of your guild affiliation. If you returned the sextant to Ramizer (found in the Stone Dragon's hoard), there are no further interactions with the Thieves Guild. None will join your ship, and they have no more tasks. Diego offers superior Dexterity training compared to Cassia. You can choose to kill the three thieves downstairs (Cassia, Jesper, and Ramirez) after pickpocketing them, and then report to Lord Andre for +500 XP and 300 gold.
POINT OF INTEREST: A Few Goblin Berries
In Chapter 5, visiting Hagen reveals that most of the ship's crew is in the upper quarter, preparing to enter the Valley of Mines. This means the ship you will soon borrow will have a minimal crew, guarded by only two paladins. These 'Ship Guards' were previously immortal but can now be knocked out. Each carries a goblin berry. Not all Ship Guards have them, but at least one more can be found on a guard in the upper quarters, and some knights also carry them.
POINT OF INTEREST: Empty the Pockets
This is your final opportunity for pickpocketing in Khorinis. Successful pickpocketing in Chapter 5 yields +250 XP per attempt. You may have items like an amulet of agility or power, or a ring of skill or dexterity, to boost your Dexterity up to +30. The most difficult targets may require up to 120 Dexterity, which you should have by now regardless of your guild. Investing Learning Points (LP) in Dexterity now is advisable, and remember that magic rings or amulets can also increase it.
Notable pickpocket targets in and around Khorinis in Chapter 5 include: Mika, Jack, Niclas, Daron, Canthar or Sarah, Jora, Hakon, Zuris, Rengaru, Baltram, Ruga, Peck, Mortis, Wulfgar, Borka, Abuyin, Hanna, Cassia, Jesper, Ramirez, Ulf, Rangar, Coragon, Rosi, Till, Vatras, Pablo, Constantino, Brian, Harad, Meldor, Lehmar, Fenia, Moe, Mario, Kardif, Joe, Lares, Brahim, Garvell, Fellan, Alrik, Alwin, Carl, Ignaz, Halvor, Bromor, Nadja, Gritta, Thorben, Regis, Matteo, Diego, Bosper, Wambo, Judge, Lutero, Salandril, Cedric, Albrecht, Ingmar, Larius, and the Gardener. Note that some individuals may not be available depending on previous quests and your guild affiliation. Saving your pickpocketing for Chapter 5 can yield significant rewards.
