Learn Gothic 1 Remake combat tactics for Dragon Snappers, Orcs, Skeletons, Shadow Warriors, and Crypt Guards. Master enemy fighting styles.
Walkthrough
- 1Dragon Snapper & Snapper
- These fast, dinosaur-like creatures hunt in packs and rely on a powerful charge attack that deals significant damage.
- 2They can be lured into one-on-one situations by isolating them from the pack. A snapper signals its intent by raising its head, turning towards you, and taking hesitant steps before charging.
- 3If facing a pack, retreat if they all begin charging.
- 4To fight a single snapper, back away as it approaches. Lure it 5-10 meters from the pack before it charges to prevent others from noticing.
- 5The key to defeating a charging snapper is to land the first hit, which stuns it and interrupts the charge. Time your strongest melee swing to hit it just as it's about to connect, then follow up with quick slashes to finish it off.
- 6Orc Warrior & Scout
- These large enemies initially appear intimidating but are relatively easy for melee fighters, especially when encountered alone.
- 7Orcs charge towards you roaring and attempt an overhead swing.
- 8Counter their attack by landing a blow of your own, which will cause them to retreat and try again.
- 9If you interrupt their attack, they may attempt a side swing. Block this by jumping back slightly. They will then close the distance for another overhead swing.
- 10Repeat this process of interrupting their attacks, blocking, and counter-attacking 2-3 times to defeat an Orc Warrior or Scout with a one or two-handed melee weapon.
- 11Skeleton, Shadowwarrior & Crypt Guards
- These are some of the most challenging foes due to their high hit points, strong attacks dealing hundreds of damage, and fast movement speed.
- 12Skeletons (excluding lower or goblin variants) have two primary sword attacks: a swift overhead swing that leaves them briefly vulnerable, and a deadly double side-to-side swing.
- 13Blocking the double swing requires advanced melee skill; attempting it too early can result in blocking the first hit and taking damage from the second.
- 14Individually, these attacks can be blocked with proper skill. However, they are often combined into combos. Blocking one attack may push you back, leaving you open to the second.
- 15To combat a skeleton one-on-one, anticipate its attack and block accordingly. Misjudging an overhead swing for a double swing, or vice versa, will leave you open to a counter-attack.
- 16If you successfully anticipate and block an attack, you have a small window for a counter-attack.
- 17Consistently anticipate and block attacks, counter-attack, and then step back until the enemy is defeated.
- 18A melee fighter around level 10 will likely need 5+ hits for a skeleton and 10-20 hits for a Shadow Warrior.
Tips
- Understanding enemy attack patterns and timing your blocks and counter-attacks is more important than your character's level or raw power.
- Luring enemies into one-on-one fights is often a safer strategy, especially against pack hunters like Dragon Snappers.
- Mastering the block and counter-attack mechanic is essential for dealing with faster and stronger enemies like Skeletons and Shadow Warriors.
- Expect intense and rewarding fights against tougher enemies; these encounters are designed to test your skill.
