Learn how to acquire the Glide ability in Gris. This walkthrough covers the Prologue, including finding stars and completing the 'Denial' challenge.

Alright, let's get started with Gris! You'll begin in a pretty rough spot, collapsed after a fall. To get moving, just point the left joystick to the right. As Gris walks, the world around her will start to come back to life.

Keep moving forward, and you'll eventually collapse again after passing through some fog. This time, when Gris gets up, she'll be a bit quicker and, more importantly, she'll gain the ability to jump! She's light as a feather now.

Five Stages of Grief: Denial

Once you have the jump ability, you might want to head back left for a moment. Remember that spot where Gris first landed? There's a small pillar there. Just beyond it, you'll see a collapsed statue. Approach it, and let Gris fall and get back up on her own. Super important: don't touch the controller at all during this! If you do, you'll miss out on this challenge. But if you get it right, you'll see a notification pop up on the right side of your screen: First Stage of Grief: Denial. Keep an eye out for these subtle challenges; there are five stages of grief in total that Gris can experience.

Constellation Bridges

Continue on, and the world will get rocky. You'll eventually climb a huge rock. When you leap over the edge, there's no going back from this point.

Keep going until you spot a small, pulsing light – a Star. Walk up to it, and Gris will absorb it, gaining a little companion. You'll find more of these stars as you go.

A bit further on, past where you found the first star, look for some crumbling platforms. The first one has a tree with upside-down triangular leaves. Hop onto these platforms and keep heading left. You're looking for a black mountain that goes upwards to your right.

Not too far up this mountain, you'll find a second Star. Grab it, and then keep going. You'll soon see a large gap between structures, and the game will hint that your star companions can help you cross it. However, you don't have enough stars yet to make the bridge.

Luckily, there's a third star nearby! Climb the stairs on the left, and you'll find a large, leaning tower. There are zigzagging stairs going up it. Climb to the top, and your two little star companions will automatically create a bridge. Use it to reach a third Star on a smaller tower nearby.

Memento #1

Before you head back across the gap, there's a collectible here! Go up the first set of stairs on the leaning tower, then jump to the left. You'll see a symbol – this is one of the game's Mementos. Touch it to activate it, and then you can return.

There are Mementos scattered throughout the game, with two in this first chapter. Once you've got this one, head back to the gap. Your three star companions will form a bridge. Cross it, and keep moving right until you reach a crumbling stone hand. A short cutscene will play, with a burst of red. You'll also get a notification: Red - A Color Has Been Brought Back. You can check your progress on these challenges in the Pause Menu. The 'color' challenges are usually awarded when you finish a chapter.

The Temple and the Constellations

Keep going until you reach a massive staircase leading up to what looks like a temple. Right at the top, on the back wall, there's a pictogram showing a leaning tower and two circles with a dot. If you found the Memento earlier, one of those symbols should light up.

Continue inside. When you reach a blood-red tree, your star companions will leave you to form a constellation in the sky. You'll have to go on without them for now.

On the other side of the red tree, at the edge of the stairs leading down, you'll see more symbols on black walls. These mark the game's chapters and their own Mementos, which you'll find as you play.

Head down the stairs and keep moving right until you start sliding down a steep, red mountainside. Once you land on flat ground, continue right. You'll arrive at a black tower. As you near the top, Gris will automatically finish the climb, and a cutscene will play. This wraps up the game's prologue!
