The Flood, a parasitic alien species, represents one of the most terrifying and formidable threats in the Halo universe. Their primary objective is to infect and assimilate all sentient life, transforming them into grotesque combat forms. Understanding the different Flood forms and their behaviors is crucial for survival, especially on higher difficulties.

The most common Flood form encountered is the Infection Form. These small, slug-like creatures are typically found in pods or emerging from fallen hosts. Their sole purpose is to latch onto a living being and begin the assimilation process. While individually weak, they are often encountered in swarms, making them a significant threat if they reach the player.

Once a host is fully assimilated, they transform into a Combat Form. These are the primary offensive units of the Flood. They come in various sizes and strengths, often retaining some semblance of their original form but twisted and mutated. Combat Forms are aggressive, charging at players and attacking with powerful melee strikes or by spitting Flood biomass. Their weak points are generally their heads, but their erratic movements can make them difficult to target.

Larger, more powerful Flood forms include the Pure Forms. These are Flood creatures that have not been derived from a specific host species and possess unique, often devastating, attack patterns. Examples include the Flood Juggernaut, a hulking brute capable of immense damage, and the Flood Carrier, which explodes upon death, releasing a cloud of Infection Forms. These larger forms require heavy firepower and strategic engagement.

Strategies for combating the Flood include:

• Area of Effect Weapons: Weapons like the Flamethrower, Rocket Launcher, and grenades are highly effective at clearing out large groups of Flood, especially Infection Forms and smaller Combat Forms.
• Close-Quarters Combat: Shotguns and melee attacks can be devastating against individual Flood Combat Forms at close range, but be cautious of being overwhelmed.
• Headshots: Like most enemies, targeting the heads of Flood Combat Forms can result in critical damage and quicker eliminations.
• Environmental Hazards: Utilize explosive barrels or other environmental dangers to your advantage when fighting the Flood.
• Avoid Infection: If an Infection Form latches onto you, quickly melee it off or use a close-range weapon to destroy it before it fully assimilates you.
