Alright, so you're trying to get your hands on some Guardian Scale+ for that sweet armor or weapon you've got your eye on, huh? Don't worry, it's a bit of a grind, but totally doable. Unlike most scales that just drop from hunting monsters, this one's a bit more specific. It's mainly from the high-rank 'Guardian' versions of a couple of monsters: the Guardian Rathalos and the Guardian Black Odogaron. Just a heads-up, the Guardian Doshaguma doesn't drop it, and for some reason, the Guardian Fulgur Anjanath is also a no-go for this particular material.

You'll start seeing these rank five monsters around Chapter 4, specifically in the Wyveria region. You can hunt them through Field Surveys and Investigations, but there are two main ways to get the Guardian Scale+ to drop:

1. Destroying Wounds: This is going to be your bread and butter. When you break specific parts (wounds) on the Guardian Ebony Odogaron or Guardian Rathalos, there's a 12% chance you'll get a Guardian Scale+. Keep an eye out for these weak points and make sure to break them whenever you get the chance. If you have skills that boost your wound-inflicting abilities, they could definitely come in handy here.
2. Quest Rewards: There are a few quests that specifically task you with hunting down a Guardian Rathalos and a Guardian Black Odogaron. Completing these can net you Guardian Scale+ as a bonus reward. Field Surveys and Investigations also seem to count towards this.

So, what's the best overall strategy? Honestly, just repeatedly hunt the Guardian Ebony Odogarons and Guardian Rathalos through Field Surveys and Investigations. Alternatively, you can farm specific quests like White Wails, The King’s Triumphant Return, or Purrfect Plundering. You get chances from wounds, and also from the quest rewards themselves. It's still a bit of a long shot, so be prepared to run these hunts multiple times to gather enough Guardian Scale+ for crafting. That's just how Monster Hunter rolls sometimes!

You'll need these materials for some pretty cool late-game gear. Think along the lines of the Guardian Ark Mail (Palico armor) and G. Arkveld Greaves. They're also required for the Damascus Coil, Damascus Greaves, G. Rathalos Mail, G. Ebony Mail, and Guild Ace Mail. If you're just aiming for the G. Ebony or G. Rathalos sets, you might get lucky since you're already hunting those monsters for other materials. But for other gear, it can definitely feel like a chore to grind out those specific monsters for just one rare material.
