Learn how to forge armor sets like Leather, Chainmail, Hunter, Vespoid, Bone, and Jagras in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne at the Smithy.

Armors can be forged at the Smithy. After forging, you can re-purchase armors previously forged from the Armory right next to the Smithy. Armors generally come in complete sets of five. In some cases, there are complete set bonuses. In other cases, each piece of armor can have a bonus skill. Finding monsters, defeating monsters, finding footprints and more can update the forge. This will also work if you find certain Monster Materials that are farmed.

For example, the two starting sets which are the leather and Chainmail sets can be upgraded and forged at the Smithy. They will cost some Z (the game's currency) and will also need certain materials such as Iron Ore.

Another example would be the Jagras Armor set. You must first defeat a Jagras for certain items in the set to appear at the Smithy's Forge. You may also need to acquire some parts for the pieces to be previewed at the Smithy. If the requirements are met, meaning you have the materials and Z to forge the equipment, do so and you will see a cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically). After the scene, you can equip or store your new piece of Armor.

Armor Skills and Armor Skill Leveling

There are tons of Armor skills in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. You can level your Skills by equipping another piece of gear with that same skill. Some skills have up to a Level 7 bonus. This means you would need a full five-piece armor set with a certain Skill, and also a weapon and charm with that same skill. You can mix and match skills at your leisure.

Leather Armor Set

This is a complete five-piece armor set. You have the choice of wearing this set for your Main Character or the Chainmail Armor Set at the start of the game. This armor can be leveled up normally. It has no resistance to all other elements except for +10 Resistance against fire elemental damage types. The armor skill is Hunger Resistance, which is given from the Leather Helmet specifically. Hunger Resistance reduces maximum stamina depletion over time, providing +10 Resistance against fire.

  • Level One Hunger Resistance: 30% Extra time before stamina reduction.
  • Level Two Hunger Resistance: 60% Extra time before stamina reduction.
  • Level Three Hunger Resistance: No stamina loss.

Chainmail Armor Set

Chainmail Armor Set is a starting set of armor and the alternative to the leather armor at the start of the game. The armor has virtually the same defenses except for its elemental defenses. This armor set has more water defense than the alternative leather with more fire defense. It provides +10 Resistance against fire and +10 Resistance against water. The armor skill is Master Gatherer, which speeds up gathering and reduces knockbacks when doing so.

Hunter Set

This armor set will become available after defeating the first Jagras hunt and acquiring some of their spoils. You can forge this nicer armor at the Smithy from that point, with Jagras materials. You will also need some Monster Bone S, which is located in bone piles in the Ancient Forest region. This set provides +80 Fire Resistance, +10 Water Resistance, and +10 Thunder Resistance. The armor skills include Stun Resistance (which increases with more Stun Resistance equipment worn, providing Level One: 30% Resistance to Stun, Level Two: 60% Resistance to Stun, Level Three: Immune to Stun), Attack Boost (can be leveled seven times, increasing attack power and affinity), Master Mounter (makes it easier to mount and topple Monsters), and a skill that decreases stamina consumption when evading while clinging to walls or ivy by 25% at Level One.

Vespoid Armor Set

This armor set can be farmed and forged after meeting some Vespoid enemies inside the Ancient Forest. Some Vespoids are located near the North East region of the Ancient Forest. There is also a second nest on the third floor at area 16. You can use the Slinger with some Redpit for quicker kills on the Vespoids. You will need to farm and carve them for their Wings, Body parts, and Monster Fluids to craft the Vespoid Set in entirety.

Bone Armor Set

Bone Armor can be forged at the Smithy. You will need Kestodon Bones, Ancient Bone S, and Monster Bone S. Kestodons are found right at the start of the Ancient Forest near the Southwest Campsite. Ancient Bone S is found inside bone piles within the Ancient Forest, as is Monster Bone S more commonly. The set provides +30 Fire Resistance, +10 Water Resistance, +10 Thunder Resistance, and +10 Ice Resistance. The armor skills include Health Boost, Attack Boost, Slugger, Horn Maestro, and Entomologist.

Jagras Armor Set

The Jagras Armor set can be forged by hunting Great Jagras remains and materials. You will be required to have the Great Jagras Scale, Mane, Hide, and Claws. You will also need Ancient and Monster Bone S. Furthermore, regular Jagras remains or materials will be needed to complete the entire set.
