Alright, so in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, you're gonna start finding some really neat gear called Mantles as you get further into the main story, usually around mission six. Think of these like special abilities you can pop on your character. They have a cooldown, but some even come with their own skills that can totally change up how you play and build your hunter!

You activate these Mantles, or Specialized Tools, by pressing the Square button on your PlayStation 4. The first one you'll likely get is the Ghillie Mantle. It's basically a camouflage suit that makes monsters ignore you when you're nearby. This opens up a ton of tactical options!

Ghillie Mantle

You'll snag the Ghillie Mantle after finishing up mission six of the main quest. Its main gig is camouflage, and it's got a 300-second cooldown. When you use it, you're hidden for 120 seconds, but that timer stops if you do anything like attack. Once you attack, the camouflage breaks, and you'll see the leaves disappear from your character.

This thing is a lifesaver for farming specific spots, especially in areas like the Wildspire Waste. You know, where you find tons of Godbugs that take time to respawn, or loads of Sleep Herbs? With the Ghillie Mantle, you get a solid 120 seconds to just grab everything you need. Then, you wait out the 300-second cooldown and repeat. Just be mindful of potential turf wars, like between a Barroth and a Jyuratodus, while you're trying to farm – you don't want to get caught in the middle!

It's also super handy for getting the first hit in or setting up sneak attacks. I've even used it before mounting a monster! I remember fighting a Barroth, threw on the Ghillie Mantle beforehand, climbed a nearby rock with a Godbug, and leaped off. Turns out, you can totally mount a monster while the Ghillie Mantle is active. From there, you can go right into Triangle attacks and even a Triangle Triple-Strike for some sweet damage right off the bat.

Using the Ghillie Mantle before a big fight to prep is smart too. If you're observant, you can spot a monster from a distance using your Binoculars. Quickly pop on the Ghillie Mantle, follow it, and then you've got time to use buff items like Demon Powders or Nutrients before the real battle begins. Honestly, these Mantles are a blast, and I can't wait to try out all the others and see what their unique skills do!
