The Heavy Bowgun is a powerful and enjoyable weapon in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Players should familiarize themselves with the ammunition status screen and the main equipment screen for their weapon. Bowguns can be customized at the smithy with various modifications that stack. More modification slots unlock as players progress through the main story. Heavy Bowguns, similar to Light Bowguns, utilize special ammunition, ranging from sniping shots to heavy machine gun-like barrages. Experiment to find the special ammunition that best suits your playstyle.

Iron Assault
The Iron Assault is the initial Heavy Bowgun from the Ore tree, upgradeable to Tier III. All other Ore-based Heavy Bowguns branch from this weapon. It comes equipped with the Wyvern Heart Special Ammunition, which transforms the Heavy Bowgun into a heavy machine gun. This ability is effective with a steady aim. The Wyvern Heart recharges automatically over time, indicated on the bottom-right corner of the game's HUD (heads-up display).

Jagras Blitz
The Jagras Blitz is a popular early-game choice, especially for its large magazine capacity for Spread Ammunition. It can hold 10 rounds of Spread Ammo #1 and 6 rounds of Spread Ammo #2, totaling 16 Shotgun Rounds per reload, capable of dealing significant damage to certain monsters. This weapon is particularly effective against Jagras, allowing for quick takedowns, especially when they appear in groups. Always check your ammunition sub-screen when using Bows and Bowguns, as weapon types have limitations on the types and amounts of ammunition they can hold.
