Learn how to craft and use all the essential healing and buffing items in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, from basic Potions to powerful Max Potions.

Hey there, hunter! Let's talk about potions and other handy items that'll keep you alive and kicking in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Think of these as your emergency toolkit. We'll cover how to make 'em and what they do, so you're never caught with your health bar in the red!

Potions and Procurement Items

Potions are your bread and butter for healing. We'll be focusing on all the healing items, and since many share the 'potion' name, I've merged this with crafting info. This means we'll list the ingredients you need to make them. For example, gathering a Herb is the first step to crafting a basic potion. To really learn the ropes, I suggest turning off auto-crafting in the options menu under 'Crafting'.

001 - Potion

You craft a basic Potion using Herbs. These are the common green plants you'll find all over the Ancient Forest. Potions restore a small chunk of your HP. Be warned, though: using a potion takes a good amount of time, and you can still get hit and interrupted while you're chugging it. There are only a few invincibility frames (I-frames) while you drink, so make sure you've got some breathing room before you start.

002 - Mega-Potion

To make a Mega-Potion, you'll need some Honey and a regular potion. You can carry up to 10 Mega-Potions at a time. This bad boy restores a much more significant amount of your health. You'll find Honey deeper in the Ancient Forest, usually near Honey Combs. You'll generally get two servings of honey from each comb. Combining this with a Potion gives you a Mega-Potion.

003 - First Aid Med

As far as I know, you can't craft First Aid Meds. These are considered supply items, meaning you'll find them in your Supply Box before a mission starts. I've also spotted them in the Arena on the Fourth Floor of Astera, also known as the Gathering Hub. After fighting Pukei-Pukei for an A-Rank, I got these as rewards pretty often, so I'm guessing they're common rewards for Optional Quests, Investigations, or Assigned Quests too.

Herb

Herbs are super common in the Ancient Forest. They automatically craft into potions for you at the start of the game. If you turn off auto-crafting for potions, this stops. Honestly, I'd only recommend doing that if you're a veteran. You can carry 10/10 Herbs.

Honey

Honey is key for making better potions, specifically the Mega-Potion. Look for it near beehives or Honey Combs in the Ancient Forest. These are usually a bit deeper in. They respawn every few minutes and typically give two servings. Mix it with a Potion to create a Mega-Potion.

004 - Antidote

Need to cure poison? Grab an Antidote. It takes about the same time to use as a regular Potion or Mega-Potion, so be sure you have some safe space or try running while using it. You craft these with blue Antidote Herbs, which you can find near blue plants in the Ancient Forest.

005 - Herbal Medicine

This is a lifesaver against poisonous monsters like the Pukei-Pukei. Herbal Medicine heals you and removes poison. Like other potions, it has a long use animation, leaving you vulnerable. To craft it, you'll need Blue Mushrooms and an Antidote. Blue Mushrooms pop up near mushroom colonies, and you can often spot them on the World Map.

Antidote Herbs

These common herbs grow near blue plants in the Ancient Forest. You can carry 10/10 Antidote Herbs. Use them to craft Antidotes, which cure poison for you and your allies.

Blue Mushrooms

Used to make Herbal Medicine. Look for Blue Mushrooms near mushroom colonies on the World Map. You can carry 10/10 of these.

006 - Nutrients

Nutrients give you a small, permanent boost to your maximum health. This effect stacks with other Nutrients and Mega-Nutrients. You craft them using Bitterbugs (found on trees all over the Ancient Forest and other areas) and Blue Mushrooms.

007 - Mega-Nutrients

Mega-Nutrients stack with Nutrients and are crafted from one Nutrient Potion and some Honey. They also increase your maximum health by a small amount. My testing showed a gain of +20 HP on a base of 115 health after using one Mega-Nutrient.

008 - Max Potion

Max Potions are absolute game-changers for tough fights. They fully heal you AND maximize your total health meter. To craft one, you'll need a Mandragora Mushroom, found in desolate areas like caves in the Wildspire Waste and Ancient Forest. You'll also need Mega Nutrients. Mega Nutrients are crafted from Nutrients, which come from Bitterbugs. Combining these with the Mandragora makes a Max Potion. Look for Mandragora where you find Brightmoss.
