Navigate the treacherous Part 8 of your Pacific Drive journey. This guide details objectives, enemy encounters, and strategies to overcome the challenges ahead and progress through the game.
- 1After dealing with the general (either by shooting through the window, using a grenade, or picking the lock and dodging), retrieve the cargo manifest from the table inside the building.
- 2If barracks guards were not alerted, snipe most of them through the western window of their quarters. Rush the remaining guard in the building.
- 3Use your demolitions expert to blow up the first munitions building on the west side of the open square.
- 4Locate the opening in the fence north of the general's quarters, facing a two-story building.
- 5Deal with the guard inside the locked two-story building. Be aware that shooting from the lumber pile outside the window will alert guards to the north.
- 6Choose an ambush strategy: either sneak to the lumber pile, set an ambush on the south side and trigger it by killing the house guard and running, or attempt a stealth kill by picking the lock, knifing the guard, and sniping from the upper story.
- 7Take out all four guards (one rifleman, two submachinegunners, and an officer) near the munitions buildings to the north.
- 8Have your demolition expert blow up the last two munitions buildings.
- 9With all opposition eliminated, return south and then east to the PT boat/exit zone to complete the mission.
Mission 3: The Ridge on Guadalcanal
Location: Guadalcanal, September 1942
Briefing: Join the fight on Guadalcanal to knock out two heavy guns on a bluff overlooking the beaches, allowing Marine reinforcements to land safely. Penetrate the interior, work your way up ridges, and silence the guns while dealing with enemy snipers and light artillery.
Objectives:
- Destroy Heavy Gun #1
- Destroy Heavy Gun #2
- Destroy Artillery #1 (Secondary)
- Destroy Artillery #2 (Secondary)
- Destroy Artillery #3 (Secondary)
- Destroy Artillery #4 (Secondary)
- Get all of your men to the exit zone
Enemy Strength Assessment: Quite strong. Expect fixed positions, interlocking fields of fire, stationed guards, and enemy patrols. Many Japanese soldiers are dug into wooden pillboxes, with snipers on ridges. Secondary artillery guns are guarded by two to four men, with supporting emplacements nearby. Thick vegetation provides hiding spots.
Synopsis: Start at the south end on low ground. Proceed north to a large circle around a central mountain. Circle east then north to take out the closest gun on the outside ridge. Send a team up the central mountain for two guns. Take out the last light artillery, then assault the main ridge and two heavy guns.
Walkthrough (Start of Mission 3):
- Crouch and creep forward to cover behind a large log.
- Ahead, behind bamboo, is a small log bunker with a Type 99 machinegunner. Two riflemen are within earshot. Heavy foliage makes sniping difficult.
- Best approach: use a stealth man to knife the bunker guard, then hunt nearby guards. Alternatively, use covering men and take out the bunker guard with a grenade or gunfire.
- After securing the area, you will have a spare Type 99 and a fresh Arisaka rifle with a scope (and five extra clips) just outside the bunker. Keep this rifle for later sniping.
- Proceed north from the bunker. The ground opens up straight ahead.
- For the general's quarters, consider the cargo manifest as a secondary objective.
- When dealing with the barracks guards, prioritize stealth if possible.
- The Arisaka rifle with scope obtained after the first bunker in Mission 3 is crucial for later sniping.
- Bring at least one sniper, two infiltration specialists, and a demolition expert for Mission 3.
