Walkthrough
- 1After obtaining the Running Shoes, proceed to Route 3.
- 2Battle trainers on Route 3: Lass (2x Lvl 9 Pidgey), Bug Catcher (2x Lvl 10 Caterpie, 1x Lvl 10 Weedle), Youngster (1x Lvl 11 Rattata, 1x Lvl 11 Ekans), Bug Catcher (1x Lvl 9 Weedle, 1x Kakuna, 1x Caterpie, 1x Metapod), Lass (1x Lvl 10 Nidoran Female, 1x Lvl 10 Rattata), Youngster (1x Lvl 14 Spearow), and Bug Catcher (1x Lvl 11 Caterpie, 1x Metapod).
- 3Heal your Pokemon at a Pokemon Center.
- 4Battle the trainer with a Level 14 Jigglypuff. Use Awakenings if it puts your Pokemon to sleep.
- 5Continue on the path to the Pokemon Center. A man sells Magikarp for 500, but it is difficult to train early on and can be found later.
- 6Heal your Pokemon.
- 7Enter Mount Moon. Avoid trainers and head left to collect TM09 (Bullet Seed).
- 8Move up and left of a trainer to find a Paralyze Heal.
- 9Battle the trainer with a Level 11 Weedle and Kakuna.
- 10Move back on track to the right and battle the Lass with a Level 14 Clefairy. Be wary of its Doubleslap and Encore attacks.
- 11Heal your Pokemon at the Pokemon Center if needed.
- 12Follow the path and take the ladder down to Mount Moon - Basement 1.
- 13In Basement 1, wild Pokemon include 100% Paras.
- 14Resurface and battle the Rocket with a Level 11 Sandshrew, Zubat, and Rattata. Collect the Star Piece.
- 15Retrace your steps back. Go south and take the left path.
- 16Warning: Avoid the trainer with Level 11 Magnemite and Voltorb if you cannot defeat them.
- 17Collect the Potion west of that trainer.
- 18Head East and defeat the Bug Catcher with two Level 10 Caterpies and a Metapod. Collect the Rare Candy.
- 19Continue on the right path to find an Escape Rope.
- 20At the end of the path, head directly West to find a Lass with a Level 11 Bellsprout and Oddish.
- 21Follow the path to a ladder. Collect TM46 (Thief).
- 22Battle the Rocket with a Level 11 Zubat and Ekans.
- 23Before leaving, collect the hidden Ether in the rock.
Tips
- Route 3 trainers are good for training weak Pokemon.
- Nidoran Female is recommended for breeding, but Nidoran Male is also available and considered better by some.
- Jigglypuff is rare and only found here, useful for the Pokedex.
- Mount Moon is an excellent training ground, especially for Pokemon that can defeat Geodude.
- Geodude is a recommended Pokemon to catch in Mount Moon.
- Zubat is not highly recommended early on unless aiming for Crobat.
- Clefairy and Paras are rare and unique to Mount Moon; catching them is advised.
- Paras appear more frequently in Mount Moon than in the original Red/Blue/Yellow games.
- The man selling Magikarp for 500 is not a trainer.
