  2. 2
Go to the Gamefreak building. On the first floor, speak with the old lady with many Pokemon to receive the Tea Key Item.
  3. 3
Exit the building and travel east out of Celadon City into the next building.
  4. 4

Saffron City Overview:

Upon entering Saffron City, you will notice a lack of people and many buildings blocked by Team Rocket. However, some unblocked buildings are accessible.

Places of Interest in Saffron City:

  • House nearest to the right of the Pokemon Center: Obtain TM29 here.
  • Two Gyms: You must defeat both.
  • Silph Co.: This building is heavily occupied by Team Rocket.

Obtaining TM29:

  1. Head to the right of the Pokemon Center to the nearest unblocked building.
  2. Speak with the person inside to receive TM29.

The Fighting Gym:

  1. Travel to the northern part of Saffron City, where you will find two gyms.
  2. Enter the smaller, oddly shaped gym. This is the Fighting Gym.
  3. Battle the trainers within.
  4. The first trainer to the right has a Level 31 Machop, Mankey, and Primeape.
  5. The first trainer to the left has a Level 32 Machop and Machoke.
  6. The second trainer to the right has a Level 36 Primeape.
  7. The second trainer to the left has two Level 31 Mankeys and a Primeape. You must defeat trainers on both sides consecutively.
  8. The Gym Leader has a Level 37 Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan.
  9. After defeating the Gym Leader, you can choose one of the two Pokemon behind him as a prize instead of a badge. The Pokemon on the left is Hitmonlee, and the one on the right is Hitmonchan. Both are received at Level 25. For in-game use, Hitmonlee is generally considered better.

Entering Silph Co.:

  1. After completing the Fighting Gym, proceed to Silph Co., the large building with many windows, which is the source of Team Rocket's activity.
  2. Warning: The guard will only allow you to enter if you have defeated Giovanni in the Celadon City Game Corner.
  3. Defeat Giovanni in the Celadon City Game Corner to gain access to Silph Co.
