Exodus in America

Get coached through the 'Exodus in America: In' mission in Red Dead Redemption. Learn how to start out, follow Jake, and reach Fort Mercer.

Alright, so you've just started Red Dead Redemption and you're about to dive into the 'Exodus in America: In' mission. It's pretty much your introduction to how things work in the game, so don't stress too much. You'll be playing as John Marston, and there's a lot of story and exploration to get into. You can stick to the main quest or just go off and enjoy the scenery.

Once you get off the train, your first stop is the saloon. After the cut-scene wraps up, follow your buddy Jake over to the horses. Hop on yours and then hold down A/X. This is key – it'll make you keep pace with Jake without burning out your horse's stamina, so you can just chill and ride.

Just keep riding with Jake until you see Fort Mercer up ahead. When you get close, ride over to the yellow marker that pops up on your radar or map. Doing that will kick off another bunch of cut-scenes, and bam! Mission accomplished.
