An Appointed Time

Guide yourself through the final mission in Mexico, 'An Appointed Time,' in Red Dead Redemption. Learn how to defeat Captain Zubieta and free Reyes' troops.

Alright, so you've made it to the final mission in Mexico, which means you're about to head north for the last part of the game. To kick things off for 'An Appointed Time,' just warp or ride over to Reyes' marker on your map. After a little cutscene, you'll find yourself in a duel with that scoundrel Captain Zubieta!

Don't sweat it, this is just like any other duel you've faced. Draw your weapon when the moment is right and put a few well-aimed bullets into Zubieta's noggin. Once he's down, give him a good loot for some cash and moonshine, then it's time to go free Reyes.

Reyes is going to ask you to bust his troops out of prison. Head over to the yellow dot on your map. Now, pay close attention here: the usual red dots showing enemies won't appear. This means you've got to move slowly and stay low, carefully checking out every potential threat before you even think about shooting.

When you get to the prison, use your Dead Eye on the guards as they come out. Then, head inside and shoot the locks on the cell doors. You'll see them spark, which means they're open. Link up with Reyes again and follow him towards the palace where you used to meet De Santa for new missions.

As you're making your way up, keep an eye out for barricades and troops blocking the road. There's also a pesky Gatling gunner right at the top near the entrance. Make sure you use plenty of cover and take out that Gatling gunner first by sniping his head off, before you deal with any of the regular soldiers! This gives you a bit more breathing room to take down the other troops before the machine gun starts firing again. Just keep repeating that pattern – take out the gunner, push forward – until you reach the main gate. Once you're inside, work your way up the stairs on the left and flank the guards who are dug in down below on your right.
