Empty Promises

Set your waypoint (a marker on your map you've manually placed as a destination) for the 'D' on the map or ride to Escalera to meet Captain Vincente De Santa.

Call your horse and follow the Captain until you reach the convoy in the outback.

Ride shotgun with De Santa. You can press B/Circle to skip the dialogue.

Warning: You will be ambushed further up the route. Whip out your rifle and take out all the red dots on your radar (your minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen) with nearby blips and threats marked) as they appear. They will surround you, so stay on guard.

When you reach the camp ahead, grab the Sniper Rifle as instructed. Use this to pick off the rebels ahead.

The Sniper Rifle can be difficult to aim precisely. Try to stay in high cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects), such as behind broken doorways, and press up the hill slowly. Using another weapon may be more beneficial if the Sniper Rifle proves too fiddly, and ammo is harder to find.

When you reach the blockade, use a regular rifle to hold back the rebels that break through. Press onwards up the valley, sticking close to quality cover.

If you are feeling brave, you can sneak up on enemies hiding behind rocks and execute them up close.

There is still a significant fight ahead. Make your way slowly through the ruined buildings, up the hill, and then towards the fort.
