Beyond your primary mission of vengeance, the wise Village Elder offers several crucial side quests that, while optional, provide invaluable rewards and deepen your connection to the world of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. Completing these requests will often grant you access to powerful Ninjitsu Scrolls, rare items, or even permanent stat boosts. Always speak to the Elder after completing a major story objective, as new requests frequently become available.

Quest 1: The Lost Amulet of Kage

The Elder's first request tasks you with recovering his ancestral Amulet of Kage, stolen by a band of rogue Ashigaru. This quest becomes available after completing the "Forest of Whispers" level.

Objective: Retrieve the Amulet of Kage.
Location: The "Hidden Gorge" level, specifically within the Bandit's Den area.
Walkthrough:
1. Enter the Hidden Gorge. Navigate through the initial treacherous cliff paths, using your Wall Run and Double Jump abilities to avoid falling into the chasm.
2. Approximately halfway through the level, you'll encounter a large cave entrance guarded by two Spear Ashigaru. Defeat them using a combination of your Katana and Shurikens.
3. Inside the cave, known as the Bandit's Den, you'll face a series of Bow Ashigaru positioned on ledges. Use your Shadow Dash to quickly close the distance and eliminate them before they can pepper you with arrows.
4. Proceed deeper into the den. You'll eventually reach a large chamber with a central campfire. Here, you'll confront the Bandit Leader, a more agile and heavily armored foe than standard Ashigaru.
5. Boss Strategy (Bandit Leader): The Bandit Leader wields a heavy club and has a sweeping attack. Dodge his attacks by rolling or jumping. After he finishes a combo, he'll be vulnerable for a brief moment. Unleash a flurry of Katana strikes or use your Fireball Ninjitsu for significant damage. Repeat this pattern until he is defeated.
6. Upon defeating the Bandit Leader, the Amulet of Kage will drop. Collect it.
7. Return to the Village Elder to claim your reward.
Reward: Ninjitsu Scroll: Swift Wind (Grants a temporary speed boost) and 500 Gold.

Quest 2: Gathering the Azure Lotus

The Elder requires a rare medicinal herb, the Azure Lotus, to aid a sick villager. This quest unlocks after you've completed "The Serpent's Temple" and successfully recovered the Amulet of Kage.

Objective: Collect 3 Azure Lotus flowers.
Location: The "Misty Swamps" level.
Walkthrough:
1. Access the Misty Swamps from the world map. Be wary of the poisonous bog water; prolonged contact will rapidly drain your health.
2. The first Azure Lotus is located on a small, elevated platform directly above the second group of Swamp Lurkers you encounter. Use a precise Double Jump to reach it.
3. Continue through the swamp, navigating past the Giant Leeches. The second Azure Lotus is nestled at the base of a large, gnarled tree stump in the middle of a slightly wider, less toxic section of the swamp. You'll need to defeat two Venomous Frogs that guard it.
4. The final Azure Lotus is found near the exit of the Misty Swamps, just before the boss arena (which you do not need to enter for this quest). It's on a crumbling stone pillar that requires careful platforming and a well-timed Wall Jump to reach.
5. Once all three are collected, return to the Village Elder.
Reward: Health Potion (Large) x3 and a permanent +5 increase to your maximum Health.

Quest 3: The Cursed Oni Mask

A powerful, cursed Oni Mask has been disturbing the spirits of the forest. The Elder asks you to seal its power. This quest becomes available after completing "The Shadow Fortress" and mastering the Swift Wind Ninjitsu.

Objective: Locate and seal the Cursed Oni Mask.
Location: The "Whispering Woods" level, within a hidden shrine.
Walkthrough:
1. Enter the Whispering Woods. Progress until you reach the area with the large, ancient stone archway.
2. Instead of proceeding through the archway, look for a series of breakable rocks on the upper-left side of the screen. Use your Explosive Shuriken Ninjitsu (if unlocked) or a series of powerful Katana strikes to destroy them, revealing a hidden path.
3. Follow this winding path, which is heavily populated by Forest Spirits and Spectral Wolves. Your Swift Wind Ninjitsu will be invaluable here for dodging their attacks.
4. You'll arrive at a small, overgrown shrine. Inside, the Cursed Oni Mask will animate and attack you.
5. Boss Strategy (Cursed Oni Mask): The mask floats and summons Shadow Clones of itself. Focus your attacks on the main mask when it's vulnerable (it will glow red). When it summons clones, quickly defeat them to prevent being overwhelmed. The mask also has a projectile attack; use your Shadow Dash to avoid it. After taking significant damage, it will temporarily become invulnerable and fly around erratically. Wait for it to settle and glow red again.
6. Once the mask is defeated, it will shatter, and its curse will be lifted.
7. Return to the Village Elder.
Reward: Ninjitsu Scroll: Spirit Ward (Grants temporary invulnerability) and a permanent +10 increase to your Ninjitsu Power.
