Navigate the Mhedume Ruins in Star Ocean: The Divine Force, find the Guarding Ring, and learn to use D.U.M.A.'s Vanguard Assault.
Walkthrough
- 1Follow a zigzagging path deeper into the ruins. A campsite is available near the entrance for healing if you run short on Blueberries.
- 2West of the campfire, the main path angles northwest. The party will comment on the ruins in the next open area.
- 3Follow the path south around the edge of a fissure, then north into another open area.
- 4Defeat the group of enemies in this area.
- 5Open the chest on the north side to obtain a Guarding Ring.
- 6Head south to two buildings, one small and one larger. Pass through the small building into a large open area.
- 7In the southwest part of this second ruins area, you will encounter a Chimera, a considerably stronger enemy. A tutorial will introduce enemy target areas.
- 8Target the Chimera's tail and destroy it with repeated attacks to reduce its ATK/INT and potentially get a Lucky Fight Coin.
- 9After defeating the Chimera, head north along the side of the larger building.
- 10Enter the building from the north side and open the chest inside to obtain Fresh Sage.
- 11Run up the stairs on the north side of this area, followed by a long stairway angling southwest.
- 12Go up a series of stairways to reach the upper ruins.
- 13Enter the circle ruins at the west end to trigger a scene where an escape pod lands, revealing the AI D.U.M.A..
- 14D.U.M.A. detects hostiles and automatically activates to protect your party.
- 15You will be attacked by a group of Thieving Scumbags. This is a tutorial battle on using the D.U.M.A. skill, Vanguard Assault. A VA Gauge appears beneath your AP gauge in battle. Press to consume VA Gauge and use D.U.M.A.'s special skills, raising a barrier that nullifies damage and repels attacks. When your character floats, release for a high-speed charging attack (Vanguard Assault).
- 16Use VA attacks to rush multiple Thieving Scumbags. Changing directions during a rush can cause enemies to lose track, allowing for a Blindside attack, which temporarily immobilizes and increases damage taken by the enemy.
- 17Defeat 50 scumbags to end the initial wave. A sneaky scumbag will then climb onto a large robot and continue the attack: U. D. Hercules.
- 18U. D. Hercules attacks with its fists at its feet, may shoot fireballs downward, fire laser beams from its eyes, or spray flamethrowers from its wrists or spin to spray the area around itself. All attacks are damaging and result in multiple hits. Use Stop Mode to use Blueberries as needed.
- 19U. D. Hercules has three targetable areas: its two feet and its head. The head is a weak point. Initially, only the feet can be targeted. Attack the feet while your VA gauge fills. After dealing some damage, you can change targets to the upper area.
- 20Press to target U. D. Hercules' head. Hold and then release to activate VA and rush to attack its head. Attack until your AP is exhausted, then refill and use VA again. Striking the head deals much more damage, and U.D. Hercules should fall after a few VA attacks.
- 21With the defeat of U.D. Hercules, you earn the Encounter with the Unknown Trophy/Achievement.
- 22After the battle, a collection point can be found at the waist of a statue on the perimeter. Use DUMA's VA skill () to float and then fly to this unreachable area.
- 23Use DUMA's Scan skill () to reveal nearby treasure and other interactable objects.
- 24Gather items from the high collection point, then use Scan to locate a Treasure Chest behind the statue containing Silver x1.
- 25Other collection points exist around the tower ruins. Approaching the stairs south of the large opening in the tower wall leads further into the area.
Tips
- The campsite near the ruins entrance can be used to heal if you run low on Blueberries.
- Targeting enemy weak points, like the Chimera's tail or U. D. Hercules' head, significantly increases damage dealt.
- Use D.U.M.A.'s Vanguard Assault and Blindside attacks to gain an advantage in combat.
- D.U.M.A.'s Scan skill is useful for finding hidden treasures and collection points.
