Defeat mechs at the Village of Eda gate in Star Ocean: The Divine Force to earn the Some Kind of Welcome Trophy/Achievement.

As you approach the village gate, a cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) (a non-interactive story sequence) will play and you will enter battle with a group of mechs.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Battle the Semiomantic Cannon x7 and Semiomantic Vulcan x5. These enemies have Elemental Resistance and Status Resistance values. The Cannon fires large projectiles that can knock you down and stun you. The Vulcan attacks with rapid-firing guns that have a wider range and a stun effect, prohibiting you from avoiding later attacks.
  2. 2
Having No Guard and First Aid set as passive skills is a big help. No Guard keeps you from flinching, and the multiple low-damage enemy hits have a good chance to trigger the healing effect of First Aid. As an alternative, try to continuously dodge the attacks of a Vulcan targeting you.
  3. 3
At the beginning of the battle, the enemies are all perched on individual platforms attached to the town wall at varying heights. While in this position, they are easy to take out with VA (Variable Attack) attacks.
  4. 4
After you eliminate a couple of the enemies, they all will come down from the platforms and gather in the center. When grouped together, use VA attacks to Blindside multiple enemies. Attack with skills to refill your VA Gauge and Blindside a group again.
  5. 5
To steadily reduce their numbers, you may want to enter Stop Mode and change your strategy to "Maintain Focus" so everyone will attack the same target. Otherwise, manually change targets every so often to attack the enemy with the lowest HP.
  6. 6
Victory in this battle is rewarded with the Trophy/Achievement, Some Kind of Welcome.
  7. 7
After defeating the robots, you are permitted to enter Eda. Move forward and after a short cutscene, follow Midas as he walks through the town.
  8. 8
There will be a cutscene when you reach his place at the east end of town.
  9. 9
If you are playing as Raymond, Midas joins your party through the scenes there.
  10. 10
If Laeticia is your Main Character, head down to the terraced fields on the west side of town and talk to the Old Farmer with two Leviathorses. Then return to Midas's place and view the scenes that have him accompany you.
  11. 11
When Midas joins your party, you earn the Great Sage Midas Trophy/Achievement.

The Midas Touch

Midas is a semiomancer (a caster specializing in offensive spells). He already knows Fire Bolt - Final Chant, Wind Blade and Earth Glaive. His Skill Tree groups fire skills in the lower left, ice skills in the lower right, earth skills in the upper left and wind skills in the upper right. Near the starting point in the center of his Skill Tree, you can learn an attack spell for each of the four elements (Fire Bolt, Ice Needles, Lightning Blast and Crush). Then head through the upper part of the Tree and work toward learning the No Guard and Fast Cast passive skills.

The Fire Bolt - Final Chant that he already knows is not as powerful as the Fire Bolt on his Skill Tree but he can use it with no cast time. It is a good thing to have in combos until you learn Fast Cast. Most of the enemies you will encounter in the near future are weak against Fire. If you want to conserve Skill Points to spend on Fast Cast, pick up Fire Bolt now and save the other elemental skills for later.

You have to pass all the way through town on your way to the exit, giving you a chance to explore.

Item List:

  • Chests: Artisan Pliers x1, Morale Potion x1, Genius Potion x1, Wind Incantation x1, 150 Fol
  • Collection Points: Fol, Sacrificial Doll, Gunner (Pawn), Roly-Poly Bean, Fresh Sage, Aquaberries, Iron, Silver, Scruffy Rag, Wool, Aromatic Cloth, Ancient Coin, Mechanical Gears, Animal Hide
  • Breakables: Fol, Sacrificial Doll, Blueberries, Fresh Sage, Aquaberries, Roly-Poly Bean, Panacea Leaf, Iron, Silver, Scruffy Rag, Wool, Aromatic Cloth, Ancient Coin, Mechanical Gears, Animal Hide

Before starting your search, return to Midas's place. There is a treasure chest inside that holds the Artisan Pliers, a support item that makes it easier to create good items through Item Creation: Crafting.

Outside his house, find a few Breakables and a Collection Point north of the entrance. To the south are some DUMA Point Crystals, including a large Crystal, and a Collection point with a Gunner playing piece.

Down the trail you'll see some floating DUMA Point Crystals. Jump from the trail to the roof of the building west, collecting the Crystals as you go. Drop down behind the building and look for a chest that contains Morale Potion x1.

Follow the path in front of the two buildings southwest and take the lower path south. You will find a chest beside a wheel barrow under a lean-to. Open the chest to get Genius Potion x1.

Leave the area by the northwest downward trail. You will see crops planted on terraced fields. Check near the north end of the upper terrace to find a Snowy White Mini-Bunny. There is a Collection Point at the north end of the next terrace down. To the east are several areas with floating DUMA Point Crystals.

In the center of the Village you find the Inn, with the Item Shop next door. You can refit your party with upgraded weapons and armor at the Item Shop. You don't need to buy new weapons for Laeticia because you will find some soon. Outside the Item Shop on the east side is a chest that has Wind Incantation x1.

Talk to the Romantically Assertive Woman outside the Inn to start the Meet Some Meat Quest.

North from the Inn you can collect several DUMA Point Crystals. Where the trail turns west, you can find a chest to the west of the two buildings on the north side of the trail. Inside is 150 Fol.

  • In Stop Mode, change your strategy to "Maintain Focus" to attack the same target, or manually change targets to attack the enemy with the lowest HP.
  • Conserve Skill Points by picking up Fire Bolt now and saving other elemental skills for later if you want to focus on learning Fast Cast.
  • You will find some new weapons for Laeticia soon, so you do not need to buy new ones at the Item Shop.
