Walkthrough for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's Forest Temple Master Quest, detailing how to find Gold Skulltula #48 and the Boss Key.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
As you begin the dungeon, look to the wall on your left. Kill as many of the Skulltulas using your Hookshot as you can, then climb the vine wall towards the high trunk. Slowly climb and sneak your way around the Skulltulas (as long as you're not in their line of sight, you can pass them) to land on the high tree trunk. Kill the remaining Skulltulas in case you fall, as well as the Big Skulltula in the center, then make your way towards on the switch and step on it to spawn a chest containing a Small Key. Hookshot to the chest, then drop down and enter the door.
  2. 2
Kill the Skulltulas here, then before entering the locked door, look above it for Gold Skulltula #48. Now proceed through the door to be met with the main gimmick of the dungeon: collecting the flames.
  3. 3
Proceed through the northern door and play the Song of Time to remove the time block here. Proceed through the door and in the next room, defeat the two Wolfos to spawn another chest, containing yet another Small Key.
  4. 4
Return to the central room and enter the western door. Defeat the Stalfos here, then proceed to the next room. Turn right and look in the corner for Gold Skulltula #49, so grab that before proceeding up the nearby ladder.
  5. 5
Head down the passage to have Navi remark about the arrows on the floor. Pull the first blue block and push it into its spot according to the arrows. At the end, there is a small recess it slots into, allowing you to climb onto it and reach the higher level.
  6. 6
Hop down and head past the second block in the corridor. U-turn at the end into the left corridor and climb the ladder here. Turn left twice and pull the brown block here as far back as it will go, ignoring the arrows for now.
  7. 7
Head back to the blue block we dropped into the recess and clamber atop towards the higher floor. The brown block here you can now push towards the end of the corridor up onto a ledge with a switch. Step on it to deploy a shortcut in case you fall, then turn left and climb up the ladder.
  8. 8
Defeat the Blue Bubbles and open the locked door.
  9. 9
Navi will warn about the shadows from the ceiling. Avoid them and proceed down the corridor. At the end of the path, drop down and grab the Boss Key. You want to be careful of said shadows, because they are the shadows of Wallmasters, who, if they capture you, will take you all the way back to the dungeon entrance.
  10. 10
Drop down into the hole next to the chest and defeat the Floormaster to open the door.
  11. 11
Head through the door to find yourself on a narrow ledge in the garden. Proceed along the ledge and enter the boring door. Eliminate the lone ReDead inside to get a Small Key.
  12. 12
Exit and head inside the colorful door this time. Hit the crystal switch before Hookshotting up to the target we spawned earlier. Use the nearby floating crystal platforms to reach the higher level. Head to the door at the top again and proceed into the hallway, which is now twisted. Head down the corridor and into the boss key room, now on its side. Skip along the platform towards the locked door which you can open.
  13. 13
Inside, head down the steps, ignoring the paintings for now, towards the other exit of the room. Inside, you will face a fight against a group of Stalfos, with a hole in the middle of the arena. Try your best not to fall and defeat them all to nab the Fairy Bow.
  14. 14
Proceed to the door with the blue carpet. Shoot the portrait of the ghost in the frame with your bow. Doing so causes the first ghost, Beth, to come out of hiding and attack you. Defeating the Poe Sisters is easy: hold them in a corner and shoot at them. Upon defeating her, you get the Compass.
  15. 15
Return to the room where we fought the Stalfos and enter the door with the red carpet instead. Repeat the fight with Joelle, the second sister, who is red but otherwise exactly the same as her sister. Defeating her nets you the Dungeon Map.
  16. 16
With two sisters down, return to the central torch room. Shoot the eye switches in the northwest and northeast corners to gain access to the garden's lower level. Exit to the west garden, defeat the enemies, then look above the door to find Gold Skulltula #50.
  17. 17
Head to the well and stand on its edge; peer down to see an eye switch inside. Hit it with your bow to lower the water level, allowing you to drop down and get the Small Key in the chest. Run to the opposite end of the well to get Gold Skulltula #51.
  18. 18
Climb out, and up the vines near the well. Above the well, there is a ledge with Gold Skulltula #52. Look for some vines you can Hookshot to above the well, and play the Song of Time to spawn some time blocks. Jump to it, then play the song again to spawn another time block. Leap across and repeat to keep making platforms for yourself. On the final platform, defeat the Skulltula before climbing up to get the Small Key.
  19. 19
Return back to the central room and head back towards where we fought the Blue Poe Sister, Beth. At the top of her stairs, open the locked door.
  20. 20
Jump across the platforms (try not to fall or you'll have to take care of a Wallmaster) and past the untwisted hallway. Leap across the platforms, grab the crate and place it on the blue pressure switch. Stand behind the torch and fire an arrow through to the frozen eye switch to twist the earlier hall. Head back the way you came, removing the crate on the switch along the way. Past the twisted hallway, drop down into the hole to find yourself in a room with a falling ceiling. There are holes that are safe spots, but they're occupied by Skulltulas. Take them out before you go any further.
Tips
  • Be mindful of Wallmasters; if they catch you, they will send you back to the dungeon entrance.
  • When fighting the Poe Sisters, cornering them and shooting them is an effective strategy.
  • The Master Quest version of the Forest Temple contains 49 Gold Skulltulas, while the normal version has 47.
