Walkthrough
  1. 1
Warp to Lake Hylia, equip the Iron Boots and Zora Tunic, and sink to the lowest part of the lake. Shoot the crystal switch above the doorway with your Hookshot to enter the Water Temple.
  2. 2
In the central chamber, sink to the lowest level and enter the doorway with yellow/green markings. Follow Ruto to the surface. Play Zelda's Lullaby at the Triforce symbol on the wall to lower the water to the lowest level.
  3. 3
Head through the nearby door and defeat the Shellders to get the Dungeon Map.
  4. 4
Drop back to the lowest level. Light the two unlit torches in the corner using arrows shot through the center torch, or by using Din's Fire. Enter the now-open door and defeat the Shellders to get a Small Key. Return to the central chamber.
  5. 5
Head to the south doorway and bomb the cracked block at the end. Sink to the bottom, use your Hookshot to defeat the Shellder. Surface and step on the yellow switch to raise the water level. Climb onto the ledge, Hookshot to the target above, and hit the crystal switch behind it to open the gate and reach Gold Skulltula #71. Return to the central chamber.
  6. 6
Climb onto the block on the western doorway and push it into the water. Sink and surface at the end of the corridor, then hit the crystal switch to activate a geyser, allowing you to cross. Sink and hit the crystal switch in the dragon statue's mouth, then Hookshot to the target on the ledge. Defeat the Shellders, surface to a ledge with a Small Key and a crystal switch. Return to the central chamber.
  7. 7
Enter the locked door in the center pillar on the south side. Play Zelda's Lullaby near the sign to raise the water level. Sink down and head to the end of the corridor, hit the crystal switch, defeat Shellders, and swim up the grate towards a chest with a Small Key. Exit to the central chamber and enter the accessible door on the second floor.
  8. 8
Sink down and enter the southern doorway where you met Ruto. Surface to find a ledge with a cracked wall. Bomb it, open the chest inside for a Small Key. Exit and head through the eastern doorway on the second floor. Hookshot across spikes and onto the ceiling. Disable the water geyser using the crystal switch to open the chest containing the Compass. Exit back to the central chamber.
  9. 9
Head to the west side and open the locked door with blue markings. Stand on the water geyser, hit the crystal switch by the entrance to raise yourself to the third level. Enter the door to find yourself next to the water level setting. Cast Farore's Wind, then leap down to the central chamber.
  10. 10
Open the locked door on the west side of the highest floor. Use your Hookshot to cross to the opposite ledge. Open the locked door. Hit the crystal switch to raise the water level and statue, then Hookshot to the target on the left. Hit the switch again. Hookshot north and climb over the dragon statue's head. Hit the crystal switch again to raise the water level and grapple to the final platform. Sink the water level, climb the statue's head, then raise it again to reach the high ledge. Defeat the Like Like, then use the Hookshot target on the ceiling to cross the spikes.
  11. 11
Proceed to the opposite end of the next room and turn around to face Dark Link. Use the Megaton Hammer or Din's Fire for an easy victory, or L-Target and attack when opportunities arise.
  12. 12
After defeating Dark Link, head through the door to find a chest containing the Longshot. Play the Song of Time to remove the block, then drop down.
  13. 13
    Head down along the river.
Tips
  • The Water Temple is infamous for its water level changes and the need to frequently equip/unequip the Iron Boots. The 3DS version alleviates some of these issues.
  • Dark Link can be defeated relatively easily with the Megaton Hammer or Din's Fire.
  • The Longshot is an upgrade to the Hookshot, allowing for greater range.
