Even back in Yakuza 1, Kiryu had a friend Yumi who worked at a place called Serena, just looking after the guests.

The idea evolved into bigger clubs with more hostesses, catering to different tastes. A full-on cabaret club back then was kind of like a concert hall, with stage shows and a whole crew of ladies to keep the patrons happy. But eventually, someone smart realized people weren't really there for the drinks or the shows – they were there for the company!

That's where the modern cabaret club comes in. The whole experience is streamlined: you walk in, and you're paired up with hostesses who'll join you at your table. They'll light your cigarettes, pour drinks, sing karaoke, and generally keep you entertained with flirty conversation. Sometimes, they might even go on paid dates outside the club with regulars. It's a bit of a gray area, officially part of Japan's 'water trade,' which is a step below outright sex work.

Now, in Yakuza 4, it's a bit different – and way more fun for us! Instead of just being a customer, you're basically playing a dating sim with each hostess. Your goal is to get them to like you by making conversation and raising their 'Heart Meter.' You can give them gifts, buy them drinks, take them on dates, and do all sorts of things to fill up their Hearts.

To fully win over a hostess, you need to get twenty Hearts and complete their associated Substory. It's a bit of a process: you'll only see ten Hearts available at first. Once you max those out, five more will pop up on your next visit to the club. After you hit fifteen Hearts, the final five will then become visible. So, keep at it, and you'll eventually fill that meter!
