Learn about the key characters in Yakuza Kiwami, including Kazuma Kiryu, Akira Nishikiyama, and Goro Majima.

Kazuma Kiryu - The protagonist of the Yakuza series. He is known on the streets as the "Dragon of Dojima", a title earned by accident due to events in Yakuza 0. Kiryu is a promising officer in the Tojo Clan's Dojima Family and is on track to start his own subsidiary family at the game's start.

Shinji Tanaka - A close subordinate of Kiryu. Shinji was formerly in a biker gang but began following Kiryu like a "puppy" after a chance encounter, hoping to improve himself at Kiryu's side.

Akira Nishikiyama - Kiryu's closest and longest friend, known as "Nishiki" to friends. He is another promising member of the Dojima Family. Kiryu and Nishiki grew up in the same orphanage and consider themselves true "kyoudai" (blood brothers). While Kiryu is a powerful fighter with a noble spirit, Nishiki possesses the intelligence and charm for subtler business dealings.

Yumi Sawamura - An old friend of Kiryu and Nishiki, having grown up with them in the same orphanage. She recently moved to Tokyo to join them and works as a hostess at the bar, Serena.

Shintaro Kazama - The acting captain of the Tojo Clan's Dojima Family and patriarch of his own Kazama Family. He is a respected, older yakuza who also runs the Sunflower Orphanage, where Kiryu, Nishiki, and Yumi spent their youth. Kiryu views him as a father figure due to this connection. Kazama was known as "Shintaro Fuma" in the English versions of the first three Yakuza games due to the name similarity with Kiryu's first name, "Kazuma".

Goro Majima - A lieutenant of the Shimano Family, known as the "Mad Dog of Shimano". He has an unhealthy obsession with Kiryu and constantly seeks to fight him to test his limits.

Haruka - A young girl Kiryu meets during the story. She holds a clue to a missing fortune, leading Kiryu to protect her.

Makoto Date - A police detective who forms an uneasy alliance with Kiryu.
