Alright, so you've just arrived in Baghdad and you're ready to start making Basim a real force to be reckoned with! You've got your starting sword and dagger, plus an outfit. Remember, the dagger's for parrying and the sword is for getting into direct combat. Your outfit might not offer defense, but it'll give you a nice passive buff. You'll notice that your gear has different tiers, which means you can totally upgrade them to make them even better.

Now, to actually get these upgrades done, you'll need to find a couple of specific NPCs. For your weapons, you're looking for the Blacksmith. For your outfits, it's the Tailor. But here's the catch: you can't just waltz up and expect them to work their magic. You'll need two key things: resources and Upgrade Schematics.

You can find resources by opening chests scattered around the map – just be mindful of guards, as that's considered illegal! Completing Contracts will also net you some resources once they become available. As for the Upgrade Schematics, these are super important and are primarily found in special Gear Chests. These chests are counted towards each area's collectibles and contain not only more weapons and outfits but also those crucial schematics.

Here's a neat little detail about those Gear Chests: they follow a pattern. The very first Gear Chest you open in any given area will give you either a weapon or an outfit. The other two Gear Chests in that same area will always provide you with upgrade schematics. You'll need to open all the Gear Chests in an area because most equipment can be upgraded twice, and you'll need those schematics from all three chests to do it.

While there's no special in-game reward for maxing out every single weapon and outfit, you'll definitely want to hunt down all the Gear Chests if you're going for the Explorer trophy/achievement. Plus, you'll snag an additional two trophies/achievements for fully upgrading one weapon and one outfit. Oh, and a heads-up: any DLC weapons or outfits you might have can be fully upgraded right from the start, as they don't have associated Gear Chests in the game.
