Using and Farming Recoats

Hey there! So, you're diving into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and wondering about these things called Recoats? Think of them as your 'undo' button for skills and attributes. You'll get them as you level up, but sometimes you just want to tweak your build, and that's where Recoats come in handy.

Skill Points and Attribute Points

Every time you level up, you get 1 Skill Point and 3 Attribute Points. You can spend these at any expedition flag. Skills have a cost that increases as you unlock more, ranging from 1 to 10 points. Since you can only equip six skills at a time, you'll want to pick a good mix for different situations – buffs, debuffs, healing, damage, you name it. Some skills aren't even revealed until later, and new weapons or companions might make you rethink your entire build. So, it's pretty likely you'll want to respec your skills at some point.

Attributes are simpler. There are five of them, and you can raise each to 99. Early on, pumping points into Vitality can seriously boost your Health, making those initial fights much easier. Having around 290 Health with 20 Vitality is a great start. However, late game, 1389 Health at 99 Vitality feels less impactful when a single Pictos can grant you 1,000-2,000 Health. Don't stress too much about making the 'perfect' build right away. You can always use a Recoat to refund your points and try something new!

Using and Finding Recoats

You can use Recoats at any expedition flag. When you're on the skill or attribute screen, just hold down the button to refund your points. Keep in mind, one Recoat refunds either skill points OR attribute points, so if you want to reset both, you'll need two Recoats.

So, where do you get these magical items? You can find them as glowing motes of light while you're exploring the world. Sometimes, enemies will drop them as battle spoils, though this is pretty rare. Bosses have a decent chance of dropping them, but it's not a guarantee. You can also get them from regular enemies, both in dungeons and out on the world map. We found them dropping from enemies as early as the Flying Waters dungeon and around Gestral Village. The drop rate from normal enemies is quite low, so it's probably only worth farming them if you're in a real pinch. On the flip side, you might end up with enough Recoats just by playing that you won't even need to buy them. It only takes 10 Recoats to reset your entire party, and you should easily find more than that by the end of the game.
