Alright, so you've made it to the Gestral Village and heard about this arena tournament. It's a pretty cool way to snag some unique weapons, but you gotta pick your fighter wisely! Here's the lowdown on how to get the best gear out of it.

First things first, after chatting with Golgra, follow the signs to the arena. You'll find a chill gestral named Limonsol lounging around. Go chat with him to get the rundown on the rules. Basically, it's four one-on-one rounds. You get to pick who fights each round, and don't worry, you'll be fully healed up after every single match. Plus, there's an expedition flag nearby, so if you want to tweak your skills or stats before a fight, now's the time!

Arena Opponents

You'll be facing off against a few familiar faces, or at least, familiar types:

• Betrand Big Hands
• Dominique Giant Feet
• Matthieu the Colossus
• The Stranger

Honestly, none of these guys should give you too much trouble if you're around Level 15 or higher. Most of them have pretty telegraphed attacks that are easy to parry. Matthieu the Colossus likes to fake you out, so watch for that. The Stranger is a bit of a wildcard with more complex attack patterns, but even then, a couple of well-timed parries should do the trick. The real prize comes after beating The Stranger – a special weapon!

Best Gestral Tournament Rewards

Now, let's talk about which weapons are actually worth fighting for. You might have already snagged some of these! In the Ancient Sanctuary, there's a tough enemy called a Robust Sakapatate. If you've fought it, you might have already gotten the Sakaram weapon (Gustave's reward) or the Trebuchim (Lune's reward). If you already have these, don't bother using Gustave or Lune in the tournament! You'll just get a weaker, upgraded version instead of a brand-new weapon, which is a total bummer when you could be getting something much better.

Maelle’s Reward - Medalum

So, if you've already got Sakaram and Trebuchim, then Maelle is your go-to champion for this tournament. Her reward, the Medalum, is seriously good. It starts her off in Virtuose stance, letting her land a powerful first hit if she has the AP. Skills like Percee and Fleuret Fury are perfect for this, especially if you can Mark an enemy first. With the right setup, you could be one-shotting non-boss enemies right out of the gate! It's also a great way to see that 9,999 damage cap for the first time. Later on, skills like Sword Ballet and Gustave’s Homage are amazing on Maelle's first turn in Virtuose stance. Gustave’s Homage, in particular, can dish out over 70,000 damage while keeping enemies Marked. If you level up Medalum to Lv10+ and give Maelle the Double Burn Pictos, she'll inflict 4x Burns on every hit against a Marked foe with Gustave's Homage, adding a massive 32x Burn stacks! That's enough to carry you through most of the game.

Sciel’s Reward - Hevason

Okay, so here's a little trick. When The Stranger shows up, the gestrals want a show, forcing a fight. But here's the thing: you don't *have* to win. If your chosen champion loses to The Stranger, another member of Expedition 33 still wins the tournament and gets a weapon. While Maelle's Medalum is fantastic, if you intentionally throw the fight against The Stranger, Sciel will win and get the Hevason weapon. This weapon lets her use Free Aim shots to consume Sun charges for Foretell or Moon charges for extra damage. At Lv10, using a charge gives Sciel +1 AP, and at Lv20+, Base Attacks apply a Moon charge. It's a neat option if you want Maelle to handle flying enemies, or if you want to stack Foretell and generate AP with Free Aim without using Sciel's turn.

So, be sure to check your inventory after the Ancient Sanctuary, see what weapons you've already picked up, and then use Maelle to win the tournament (or throw the fight against The Stranger if you want Sciel's weapon). Missing out on a new weapon here is a real shame, especially when the alternative is just a minor upgrade!
