Learn how to summon, manage, and utilize Horned Reapers in Core Keeper. Discover their strengths, weaknesses, and how to keep them happy to avoid psychotic rampages.
The Horned Reaper is the physically strongest creature in Core Keeper, equal to the Avatar and much stronger than the Knight. They excel in combat but perform poorly in other jobs and cannot manufacture or form groups in the Barracks. Horned Reapers are extremely easy to annoy and can go psychotic, killing anything in their path when angered.
Summoning: To obtain a Horned Reaper, sacrifice 1 Bile Demon, 1 Dark Mistress, and 1 Troll in a Temple fountain (3x3 or larger). The Reaper's level will be approximately the average of the sacrificed creatures.
Managing Anger: Horned Reapers are easily annoyed by many things, including eating, researching, sleeping, being picked up, or held for too long. To keep them happy:
- Give them money (only effective if they are not yet psychotic).
- Let them walk around the Temple fountain.
- Allow them to fight or stand on dead creatures (friend or foe).
If creatures are getting angry, give them at least 10 gold to prevent them from going psycho. The "Must Obey" spell can prevent them from acting out but does not resolve their underlying annoyance.
Combat and Strategy: Horned Reapers are primarily for fighting and can defeat most creatures one-on-one, even at higher levels. However, they are vulnerable to magical attacks like Freeze or a rebounded Slow spell, as they lack magical protection. They are terrible at tasks other than fighting, so it's advisable to keep your Bile Demon, Dark Mistress, and Troll until research is complete before sacrificing them.
Summoning Timing: Sacrifice creatures when they have reached high levels to obtain a high-leveled Reaper. This is more cost-effective than training a Reaper, which is slow and expensive (150 gold). The cost to train the sacrificial creatures is 38 + 24 + 12 = 74 gold. Wait until you are ready for combat to perform the sacrifice. A "Resurrect Creature" special might allow you to recover the original sacrificed creatures.
