There are several primary avenues for acquiring powerful gear in EverQuest II, each catering to different playstyles and levels of commitment. A balanced approach often yields the best results.

1. Dungeon Drops:

Dungeons (also known as instances or zones) are instanced areas designed for groups of 3-6 players. They are a primary source of blue and purple quality gear during the leveling process and at max level. Named monsters and bosses within dungeons drop specific loot tables, making them repeatable for targeted gear farming. Many dungeons also offer quest lines that reward powerful items upon completion.

2. Raid Drops:

Raids are large-scale encounters designed for groups of 12-24 players. They offer the most powerful gear in the game, including legendary, fabled, and mythical items. Raid encounters are highly challenging, requiring coordination, specific strategies, and often significant time investment. Joining a dedicated raiding guild is typically necessary to consistently participate in and acquire raid gear.

3. Crafting:

High-level tradeskillers can craft powerful gear that often rivals or even surpasses dungeon drops. Mastercrafted items (blue quality) and Grandmastercrafted items (purple quality) are highly sought after. Crafting provides a reliable way to fill gear slots, especially if you have a skilled crafter in your guild or are willing to purchase items from the broker. Crafting also allows for customization, as you can often choose specific stats or procs on certain crafted items.

4. Quest Rewards:

Many quest lines, especially main story quests and heritage quests, offer powerful gear as rewards. These items are often unique and can be excellent additions to your build. Always check quest rewards before dismissing a quest, as some can provide significant upgrades.

5. Faction Vendors & Currencies:

Completing quests and activities for specific factions can earn you faction currency, which can then be exchanged for gear from faction vendors. These items are often a good way to fill gaps in your gear or acquire specific pieces that complement your build.
