Bargate Prison Courtyard

Learn how to escape Bargate Prison in Fable, including winning the warden's footrace, finding the Prison Cell Key, and navigating the prison to retrieve your items.

You'll only have one chance per year to escape incarceration via the warden's yearly footrace. Sprint to the end of the track, or use the shortcut by running across a catwalk just before one of the corridors the guard points to.

Winning the race lets you listen to the warden's poem. When he turns his back, sneak behind him and inspect the glittering paper on the wall for the combination to unlock the books on his desk. This grants the Prison Cell Key and a Somrune Tattoo card from his bookcase.

Use the key to unlock your cell after being locked in again. You can also unlock other inmates' cells to gain their aid later. Make your way into the courtyard; a yellow icon on your auto-map will lead you to the Torture Chamber. You'll need all your assembled weapons to free your mother. Head left and go up the stairs to the second level. Cell Block Two holds a Small Moustache Card, and Cell Block Three contains Plate Boots and a Health Potion.

Enter the Guard Barracks on the second floor to find a full suit of Guard Clothes and a bag with all your items. The bookcases hold Harion Shoulder and Arm Tattoo Cards. A barrel near the door contains an Ages of Might Potion. Head into the Torture Chamber when ready to help your mother escape.

Mandatory Quest 17: Prison Escape
Location: Torture Chamber
Reward: Kraken's Tooth Trophy

With your mother behind you, return to the Underground Chamber. Protect her from the swarming guards. You will be attacked by the Kraken. Avoid its tentacles and strike them when they miss. Once enough damage is dealt, use a ranged weapon to attack its head, avoiding its energy beam. After enough damage to the head, tentacles will reappear. Defeat the Kraken, and your mother will reward you with 40,000 Experience Points.

Available Boasts:

• No Protection - Method: Do the quest naked. Wager: 600. Reward: 1500.
• Without a Scratch - Method: Take no damage. Wager: 500. Reward: 2500.
• Perform Quickly - Method: Complete the quest within the time limit. Wager: 1000. Reward: 2200.
• Behead Leader - Method: Decapitate the bandit leader. Wager: 600. Reward: 2000.

This quest may appear before Bargate Prison, but is included here to avoid interrupting the story. Return to the Heroes' Guild to accept it, then head to Greatwood for directions to Fisher Creek. You'll be attacked by aggressive bandits en route. After finding the brother at Fisher Creek, proceed to Greatwood Lake. The bandit leader will be at the end of the broken bridge with the trader's sister. Eliminate nearby bandits, then shoot the leader in the face with an arrow. The sister will then give you Treasure Clue 1.
