Alright, so when you first jump into Far Cry 4, you'll notice you're pretty limited. You start with just one weapon slot and not much else. That's where hunting and crafting come into play to really get you going. To get more gear and better equipment, you've gotta head out into the world and hunt down the local wildlife. Once you start liberating those Bell Towers, keep an eye on your map – you'll see animal icons pop up, giving you a general idea of where to find them. Just remember, you might stumble upon other critters in those areas too.

A cool new feature in Far Cry 4 is Bait. You can snag this by killing and skinning animals. It's a throwable item that's pretty good at attracting predators, which is super handy for getting specific animals to spawn. Just a heads-up, though, Bait doesn't seem to work on every animal; it's best for attracting things like leopards, tigers, and bears.

After you successfully take down an animal, you'll need to skin it. The hide you get from this is what you'll use to craft upgrades for all your gear. Far Cry 4 also gives you a little extra incentive if you're a fan of hunting with a bow or a knife, as it lets you get two skins from a single animal. Plus, if you manage a "clean kill," you'll even earn a small amount of Karma. While regular guns will get you one skin or hide from most animals, going at them with flames or explosions can sometimes mess up the hide, making it unusable for crafting. So, choose your weapon wisely!

Every piece of equipment in the game can be upgraded through four tiers, except for your weapon slots, which only have three tiers. The first three tiers of upgrades will just need regular animal hides. However, to reach that fourth and final tier, you'll need a hide from a rare animal. These special rare animals are actually tied to the Kyrat Fashion Week side missions, so keep an eye out for those!
