Walkthrough
  1. 1
Board the Fire-Powered Ship and speak with Cid. Enter the door he indicates.
  2. 2
Below Deck: Proceed down the stairs on the right, then down again on the next floor to use the stairs.
  3. 3
Engine Room Section 1: Go up and enter the door to find chest (1) containing Mythril Gloves. Use the steps on the left, then the stairs in the bottom left corner to reach a small room with chest (2) containing an Elixir. Return. Use the steps in the upper left corner to go down to a chest (3) with a Cottage. On the right side, use the stairs first to find chest (4) with another Elixir. Go back upstairs and use the steps leading up to the door. Enter the elevator and pull the red lever to go up. Exit the elevator, find chest (5) to the right containing a Phoenix Down. Go left and up to another elevator. Press the red switch to go down.
  4. 4
Engine Room Section 2: Go up and use the steps to enter the air duct. Follow the ducts to a ladder going down, then follow more ducts to a ladder going up. Enter the door and use the elevator switch to go up. You will be in a room with 4 chutes and 3 doors.
  5. 5
The leftmost chute (N) returns you to the elevator.
  6. 6
The rightmost chute (Q) drops you in front of another elevator. Enter the air ducts to the right, follow them to chest (6) with a Green Beret. A conveyor belt returns you to the elevator door. Use the elevator to return to the chute room.
  7. 7
The 2nd chute from the right (P) drops you next to chest (7) containing Thief's Gloves. Cross the conveyor belt and retrace your steps to the chute room.
  8. 8
The 2nd chute from the left (O) drops you in front of a door. Go right and use the stairs to reach a corridor with a switch. Hit the switch to open a hidden door containing chest (8) with a Moonring Blade. Return to the door and enter.
  9. 9
The right door leads back to the chute room. The left door leads to a save spot and the door to the next area.
  10. 10
Engine Room Section 3: This section involves sliding floors that do not appear on the minimap (a small map displayed on the HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap)).
  11. 11
Go up and hit the first switch (S1) to slide the floor up.
  12. 12
Hit the switch to your left (S2).
  13. 13
Go left of S1 and hit switch (S3) to expand the floor right.
  14. 14
Go to the far right wall and hit both switches (S4) and (S5).
  15. 15
Down and left of S4/S5 are two more switches. Stand right of the top switch (S6) and hit it to move the floor up.
  16. 16
Get chest (9) containing an Elixir. Enter the door to the right.
  17. 17
Engine Room Section 4: You will find the ship's engine and a woman. Prepare your party for the boss fight.

Boss: Liquid Flame

Party: Bartz, Lenna, Galuf, Faris

Chests (9 of 9): Mythril Gloves, Elixir x3, Cottage, Green Beret, Thief's Gloves, Moonring Blade

Enemies:

  • 037 Crew Dust (Level 17, HP 240): Steals Potion, Eye Drops. Weak to Ice, Water, Wind. Can use Blue Magic Flash (when alone).
  • 038 Poltergeist (Level 17, HP 240): Steals Hi-Potion. Weak to Water, Wind.
  • 039 Defeater (Level 18, HP 260): Steals Potion. Weak to Ice.
  • 040 Motor Trap (Level 17, HP 240): Steals Ether. Weak to Lightning. Drop: Speed Shake. Hit with Thunder to trigger Self-Destruct. Use Control (Beastmaster ability) to get Missile. Motor Trap only appears if you kill a Defeater last.
Tips
  • For the floor puzzles in Engine Room Section 3, remember that the movable floor sections do not appear on the minimap.
  • Recommended party for Liquid Flame: A Time Mage with White Magic (if you have Gravity), a Mystic Knight (with Blizzara and Two-Handed if possible), a Black Mage with Time Magic (if you have Blizzara), or another fighter job. A Summoner with Shiva is also useful.
  • Liquid Flame's weaknesses are Ice, Water, and Wind.
  • Crew Dust uses Flash when it is the only enemy remaining.
  • To get the Missile ability from Motor Trap, you must use the Control ability (from the Beastmaster job) or return later.
