Walkthrough
  1. 1
Begin in Thunder Plains - South. Grab 2 Phoenix Downs and 2 Hi-Potions. Collect 5,000 Gil and a Water Ball. Enemies here include Aerouge, Buer, Gold Element, Kusariqqu, Larva, Melusine, and Qactuar.
  2. 2
    Use the Save Sphere ahead.
  3. 3
Find 2 Hi-Potions west against the wall.
  4. 4
Head north from the Save Sphere to a glowing statue. Press the Blitzball recruitment button to pray at the first Qactuar stone, enabling Qactuar encounters.
  5. 5
Behind the Qactuar stone, find a chest with 5,000 Gil.
  6. 6
East of the chest, speak to Maechen under a lightning tower for a scene.
  7. 7
Continue north, speak to Shelinda past the lake.
  8. 8
Head northeast to find a Water Ball (Waterstrike, [Empty]).
  9. 9
Find the second glowing Qactuar Stone here.
  10. 10
Head north to the Thunder Plains Travel Agency.
  11. 11
After a scene, you will be forced inside. Speak to Rikku, then Rin. Choose "Okay" to receive Al Bhed Primer XIV.
  12. 12
Shop at the Item Shop and Equipment Shop.
  13. 13
Head down the side hallway. After some scenes, speak with Rikku.
  14. 14
Exit the building and examine the object on the ground to receive a Yellow Shield (Lightningproof). Equip this on Tidus.
  15. 15
Head north into Thunder Plains - North. New enemy: Iron Giant. Enemies here also include Aerouge, Buer, Gold Element, Kusariqqu, Larva, Melusine, and Qactuar.
  16. 16
Find the third Qactuar stone here, if you prayed at the previous two.
  17. 17
Head north until the road curves east, then follow it south on the east side of the divider. Near the eastern wall, find a chest with an X-Potion.
  18. 18
Run north. Use the Save Sphere.
  19. 19
In the far north, under a pavilion, take an Ether from a chest on the west side and 2,000 Gil east of the structure.
  20. 20
Grab the Remedy in the far northwest near craters.
  21. 21
Exit north to the next area.
Tips
  • Enemies in the Thunder Plains are significantly stronger than previous ones.
  • Most enemies are weak against Water, unless otherwise noted.
  • Aerouge and Buer are good targets for Wakka.
  • Gold Element is weak against Lulu's magic.
  • Auron is effective against Kusariqqu.
  • Melusine is weak against Ice and neutral to Water; Tidus is effective.
  • Larva casts Thundara on itself when low on HP, increasing its attack power but likely defeating itself.
  • Qactuar are evasive, have Armored, and flee often. They can be defeated with unblockable attacks (Overdrives or Aeon specials). Petrification, Sleep, Threaten, and Provoke can also work, but beware of Qactuar's 1000 Needles attack.
  • Stealing from Aerouge can yield Electro Marbles and a rare Lightning Marble.
  • Larva is a good source of Lunar Curtains.
  • Qactuar can drop Chocobo Feathers, which grant Haste.
  • Aerouge and Gold Element have Electro Marbles as common steals.
  • Iron Giant has strong physical attacks and defenses; Armor Break, magic, Sleep, Slow, or Power Break are recommended.
  • If you are collecting Red Spheres and have 99, use them to teach your Aeons Abilities.
  • Thunder Plains - South: 2 Phoenix Downs, 2 Hi-Potions, 5,000 Gil, Water Ball.
  • Thunder Plains Travel Agency: Al Bhed Primer XIV (Key Item), Yellow Shield.
  • Thunder Plains - North: X-Potion, Ether, 2,000 Gil, Remedy.
