Chapter 5: Hornets' Nest

Welcome to the final chapter of Act 2, soldier! "Hornets' Nest" will test your tactical prowess and ability to adapt under pressure. Get ready for intense firefights and a few surprises as you push deeper into Locust territory.

5.1: The Gauntlet

• Initial Engagement: As the chapter begins, you'll find yourself in a tight corridor. Immediately take cover behind the concrete barriers. A group of standard Drones will emerge from the far end. Prioritize headshots to conserve ammo.
• Flanking Maneuver: After the initial wave, a few more Drones will attempt to flank from the left. Keep an eye on your minimap and be ready to reposition or blindfire from cover.
• Ammo Cache: Before proceeding through the large doorway, check the small alcove to your right for a Lancer Ammo Crate and a Gnasher Shotgun. Replenish your supplies.

5.2: The Cavern of the Bloodmounts

• Entering the Cavern: The next area is a large, open cavern with several pillars and rock formations providing cover. As you enter, prepare for a surprise attack.
• Bloodmount Encounter: Two Bloodmounts will charge from the far end of the cavern, accompanied by a few Drones. Focus fire on one Bloodmount at a time. Their riders, the Drones, are vulnerable once the Bloodmount is downed.
• Strategic Cover: use the pillars for cover, but be aware that Bloodmounts can quickly close the distance. Use your Gnasher Shotgun for devastating close-range damage when they get too close.
• Grenade Opportunity: If you have any Frag Grenades, a well-placed toss can stun or even down a Bloodmount, giving you a crucial opening.
• Collectible - COG Tag: After defeating the Bloodmounts and Drones, explore the far-left side of the cavern. Behind a large rock formation, you'll find a COG Tag.

5.3: The Wretch Ambush

• Narrow Passageway: Following the cavern, you'll enter a narrow, winding passageway. Keep your weapon ready, as this is a prime ambush location.
• Wretch Attack: A swarm of Wretches will suddenly drop from the ceiling and scurry from side passages. These creatures are fast and can overwhelm you quickly.
• Area-of-Effect Weapons: The Gnasher Shotgun is highly effective here due to its wide spread. Alternatively, a well-timed Frag Grenade can clear out multiple Wretches.
• Melee Counter: If a Wretch gets too close, a quick melee attack can knock it back, giving you a chance to finish it off.

5.4: The Berserker's Lair

• Entering the Lair: You'll emerge into a larger chamber, noticeably colder and with a distinct echo. This is the Berserker's Lair.
• Berserker Strategy: A Berserker will appear. Remember its weakness: it's blind but hunts by sound. Your goal is to lure it into the open and expose it to sunlight.
• Luring the Berserker:
  1. Fire your weapon or roll to make noise, drawing the Berserker's attention.
  2. Lead it through the chamber, avoiding its charges. use the pillars and doorways for cover.
  3. Your objective is to guide the Berserker towards the large, crumbling wall at the far end of the chamber.
• Exposing to Sunlight: Once the Berserker is near the crumbling wall, use your Lancer's chainsaw to cut through the supports or shoot the weak points on the wall. This will cause the wall to collapse, exposing the Berserker to sunlight, which will enrage and eventually kill it.
• Safety First: Maintain distance from the Berserker while it's enraged. Its charges become more frequent and powerful. Stay behind cover and let the sunlight do its work.
• Weapon Pickups: After the Berserker is defeated, check the corners of the chamber for a Hammerburst and an Ink Grenade.

5.5: Extraction Point

• Final Push: With the Berserker dealt with, proceed through the newly opened path. You'll encounter a final group of Drones guarding the extraction point.
• Turret Emplacement: One Drone will be manning a stationary turret. Prioritize taking out the turret gunner with a well-aimed headshot or a grenade.
• Clear the Area: Eliminate the remaining Drones. Once the area is clear, approach the designated extraction point to trigger the end of the chapter.
