Alright, you've made it to the Conservatory's first floor! This is where things get musical. You'll be facing Melody Pianissma, a Portrait Ghost with a love for the Butler and, well, music. She's got 40 HP, and there's a chance for a Money Ghost encounter during a blackout, but no regular ghosts here. Oh, and keep an ear out for a Boo who might say, "Wherfore am I Boomeo?"

Walkthrough

First things first, head to the room where the Butler was hanging out. Before you do anything else, check the locker right next to the piano and give the lamp hanging from the ceiling a good vacuum.

Now it's time to get Melody's attention. You'll need to interact with every instrument in the room: the harp, the saxophone, all three drums, the double bass, and the xylophone. As you do this, try to channel some nostalgia – it seems to be part of the ritual!

Once you've tickled every instrument, make your way to the piano. Melody will appear and start chatting. She'll then play a tune, either the Water Theme from Super Mario Bros. for NES or the course music from Super Mario Bros. 3.

She'll then ask you a question about the music. If she played the Water Theme, you'll get three choices: Water, Sky, or "Er, I don't know." The correct answer is Water.

If she played the course music from Super Mario Bros. 3, you'll have these options: Mario Bros., Super Mario World, or Super Mario Bros. 3. The correct answer here is Super Mario Bros. 3.

Warning: If you give her the wrong answer, she'll get a bit grumpy, tell you to leave, and be ashamed of yourself. Don't worry, just exit the room and go back in to try the quiz again.

Get the answers right, and it's time for the real battle! She'll summon music sheets that you'll need to vacuum up. After you've dealt with all the music sheets, you'll have your chance to capture Melody herself. Try to keep her in the same spot in the room while you're battling her.

After you've caught Melody, you can grab the Boo if it's around. Feel free to play the instruments again if you like, and don't forget to pick up the key. This key unlocks the dining room, which is down the corridor to your left.

Tips

Remember to interact with all the instruments before approaching the piano to trigger the Portrait Ghost.
Pay close attention to the music she plays and the question she asks to get the quiz answers right.
Don't get discouraged if you mess up the quiz; just re-enter the room and try again!
Keep Melody centered when you're trying to capture her after dealing with the music sheets.
