Find all random mice and Mario's dropped items in Luigi's Mansion. Learn locations for hat, letter, glove, shoe, and star.
Random Mice Locations:
Kitchen 1F: Go in and out of the room until you see a mouse running towards you. Stay in the kitchen for a couple of seconds before trying again. Listen for the sound.
Tea Room 2F: Similar to the Kitchen, repeatedly enter and exit the room until the mouse appears.
Sealed Room 2F: This room is also similar to the Kitchen. If the mouse doesn't appear on the first try, you may need to traverse the entire mansion. This can be frustrating.
Corridor 1F: To the right or left of the Foyer entrance, there is an upward-sloping corridor. After passing a fork in the road within this corridor, a golden mouse will randomly appear and run up it. To trigger this, repeatedly enter and exit the Foyer, pass the trigger point, and the mouse will eventually show up.
Corridor (long one) 2F: A golden mouse appears in the 2F corridor and runs towards the third floor. It is triggered when you walk past a vase after the long vertical corridor. To catch it, repeatedly enter a room and exit back into the corridor, passing the trigger point. The mouse will appear after the vase.
Mario's Dropped Items:
There are five of Mario's dropped items: a hat, letter, glove, shoe, and star. All must be examined by the fortune-teller in the Fortune-Teller's Room on 1F to advance in Luigi's Mansion.
- Mario's hat: Found in the Laundry Room, 1F. Check the laundry machine.
- Mario's letter: Located in the Courtyard, 1F, in the long path outside the mansion. Reachable after the second boss. The letter is in the Nesting Box.
- Mario's Star: Found in the Observatory, 2F. Go through the Astral Hall, stand by the telescope, and press A. A cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) will show the moon. Walls and the roof will disappear, allowing you to go to a bridge. Use your vacuum cleaner (Poltergust 3000) to vacuum small, yellow meteorites falling from the sky. Aim at the moon when spitting them out. Once the moon is hit, it explodes, and a bridge appears leading to a small moon where Mario's star is.
- Mario's glove: Located in the Projection Room, 1F, accessible after a trip to 2F. Go through the Billiard's Room. After defeating all invisible ghosts, the glove appears in a chest.
- Mario's shoe: Found in the Twin's Room, 2F. This room is near the first area's rooms but is only reachable in the third area. After defeating the twins, a chest containing the shoe appears.
Plants:
Plants in Luigi's Mansion can be watered using water elemental from your vacuum cleaner (Poltergust 3000). Water sources include the Kitchen's sink, the Boneyard's pump, Bathrooms/Washrooms, and a bowl in the Sitting Room.
- The balcony next to the Wardrobe Room 2F: Yields Gold Bars, Money, and a Blue Gem.
- Master Bedroom 2F: Yields a Green Gem.
- Courtyard 1F: Yields a Heart, Green Gem, Money, and a Gold Bar.
- Balcony 3F: Yields two Green Gems, a Gold Bar, a Red Diamond, a Heart, and Money.
- Sitting Room 2F: Yields a Gold Bar.
- Guest Room 2F: Yields a Blue Gem.
There is also a large plant that requires watering three times to yield money and a Gold Diamond (worth 20,000,000 G), the highest value item in the game. You can obtain two of these; the other is received after collecting all Boos.
In the Boneyard (accessed from the Kitchen), a bulb can be found. Water it until it sprouts before fighting Bogmire (the second boss). Water it again after defeating Bogmire until it grows further. Water it a final time after defeating Boolossus (the third boss) to receive a payoff.
