Alright, let's talk about your armor in Mass Effect. You can swap out your gear right in your cabin, or if you're super early in the game, the Cerberus base works too. Just remember, when you buy new pieces, you've gotta head back and equip them manually – they don't just pop on by themselves!

Most of the cool armor you get from DLC comes as full sets, which is neat. The basic stuff you find in-game, though, is usually mix-and-match. The good news is that it's pretty cheap to buy, so you can really tailor your look. Except for that awesome Blood Dragon Armor (if you're playing a Tech or Bio class), you can generally put together a mix-and-match set that's just as good, if not better, than the fancy DLC options once you start exploring the galaxy and hitting up shops.

One thing to keep in mind: if you're rocking a helmet or a full suit, it'll show up all the time, even during those dramatic cutscenes. The visor-style helmets are a bit less intrusive, though, so they might be a good compromise if you want to see your character's face.
