Navigate Part 40 of Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne with our detailed walkthrough, covering dream sequences, character interactions, and key plot points.
Walkthrough
- 1Upon being transported to the Police Station's Lock-up Cell, proceed through the room with a TV and up the staircases. You will trigger a cutscene where Jim Bravura, lying on the floor, instructs you to "stay true to the badge" and "solve the case."
- 2Continue through the next passage and examine the table near the staircase to find a recording device. Interacting with it will play a recording of Max Payne's inner monologue: "The cleaners, Annie Finn, Senator Gate, Mr. Corcoran, they were just peripheral noise surrounding the case. Winterson's murder was what it was all about, The cost of passion, my courtship of Mona Sax. My case, my crime. It wasn't about finding the killer. I was it. It was about looking for a deserving patsy to pin the blame on."
- 3Near the end of a dream sequence, you will find yourself at the Police Station with Detective Winterson and Mona Sax. Proceed past them into Max Payne's cubicle.
- 4Examine the white board in Max's cubicle to find the message, "WAKE UP!!! YOU ARE IN A COMPUTER GAME!!!" This is a callback to a similar dream sequence in Max Payne 1, Part 3, Prologue.
Chapter 1: Too Stubborn to Die
- In the hospital morgue, a closer inspection of the blackboard near Detective Winterson's body reveals her age to be 42, marked under "Age" on the fourth line of the left side.
- After acquiring a weapon and exiting the room where you first obtain it, you will enter a room on the right side of the corridor. This room contains control panels on the left, opposite the door, and cabinets on the right. Approach the control panel opposite the entrance door. On the table, you will find painkillers. A small screen on the extreme right of the panel, when interacted with twice using the 'Use' key, will display Jim Bravura on an operation table. Max Payne will comment: "Bravura was too stubborn to die. I had to buy him time, draw the commandos after me, get out of the hospital."
Chapter 2: On a Crash Course
- If Mike the Cowboy survived in Part 1, Chapter 2, he will taunt you over the microphone throughout this level. If he did not survive, a random thug will take his place and perform the same taunts.
- It is implied that Mona Sax is the one causing destruction and targeting Vladimir Lem. Dialogue suggests she attacked him earlier and wounded him, referencing the injury to Vladimir Lem's left hand in Part 1, Chapter 2.
- At the beginning of this level, a thug mentions, "Is the killer chick with him? The one that shot boss in the arm?" This likely refers to Vladimir Lem's injured left hand, which he attributed to a "hot date" in Part 1, Chapter 2. A TV show in the third dream level also depicts Mona Sax shooting Vladimir Lem's left hand.
Chapter 3: A Mob-War
- The Dick Justice TV series makes a reference to criticisms of Max Payne 1's character model. If you watch the TV in an old bum's house, Dick Justice states, "I had a permanent, constipated grimace on my face."
