This section details the objectives and progression within Midnight Club: Los Angeles. The game focuses on the player's rise from an East Coast newcomer to the Los Angeles City Champ.

Objective Progression:

1. Start the game by choosing one of three starter cars: a 1998 Nissan 240SX, a 1983 Volkswagen Golf GTI, or a 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco.
2. Build reputation to become the City Champ.
3. Race and defeat regional opponents to earn the right to challenge Booke, the current City Champ.
4. Defeat Booke in the City Champ race at the Standard Hotel to become the new City Champ.
5. After becoming City Champ, Booke proposes a business venture: earn $1 million to co-own his garages, receiving free access to all vehicles in return. This also impacts Doc's South Central garage.
6. Once the player becomes City Champ, challenges from the Champs of all five vehicle classes will open up: Oswaldo, Julian, Lester, Pete, and Marcel.
