Learn the ropes of the Mercenary Life in My Time at Portia! Discover Marcen's Guild, face Corny attacks, and master the Charge attack against the Terror of the Tides.
Hey there! So you're looking to become a Mercenary in My Time at Portia, huh? Awesome choice! Mercenaries are all about dishing out slow, heavy hits and can even power up their attacks with a cool 'Charge' move. Their main weapon is the Longsword, and their Life Master is a guy named Marcen.
- 1
Meet Marcen: First things first, you need to find Marcen, the Mercenary Life Master. His Guild is located just south of the main Guild Office, which is also conveniently near the inn. Chat with him there.
- 2
First Task - The Ranch: Marcen will agree to take you on as an apprentice if you help him out. He'll send you to meet two other Plushlings, Luna and Plainn, who are waiting at the west exit of the village. Head there and find them. They'll tell you that the local ranch is having some trouble with creatures called Cornies messing with the sheep.
- 3
Deal with the Cornies: Go to the ranch and find the Shepherd, who's marked on your map. He's stressed out because the sheep are getting spooked. Head into the ranch area and take on the Cornies. Don't worry too much, your Mercenary attacks might be a bit slow, but they hit hard, so these low-level enemies should be pretty easy to handle.
- 4
Report Back & Next Mission: Once you've dealt with the Cornies, head back to Marcen to report your success. After a little scene, he'll give you your next assignment: you need to guard a young girl while she's busy picking up seashells near the Capital City. Make your way to the marker east of the city.

The Terror of the Tides & Charge Attack: After a cutscene, you'll come face-to-face with a formidable foe: the Terror of the Tides! This is where you'll learn a crucial Mercenary skill – the Charge attack. Use this new power-up to your advantage to defeat this boss.
- 6
Quest Complete: With the Terror of the Tides defeated, report back to Marcen one last time. And that's it! Your Mercenary Life quest will be complete, and you'll be well on your way to mastering this powerful combat style.
- Remember that Mercenary attacks are slow but pack a punch. Try to time your hits well to maximize your damage output.
- Don't forget to practice using the Charge attack – it's key for dealing with tougher enemies like the Terror of the Tides.
